i use Juice defender to keep data streams down . free download from the app store. acccleaner is good for clearing the cache and avg for anti virus just in case

I have a galaxy S, has anyone discovered a Facebook app for it that actually works? Mine crashes all the time, doesn't support push notifications, and just generally sucks.

I don't use FB much but Seesmic seems to do most things.

Push notifications for Facebook have probably worked ... twice since I got my LG optimus. I get the email notification from facebook more often than push notifications!

 

If your phone has GPS then Google Navigation and Google Maps are great fun to play with - using street view on an unknown destination is very handy.

 

Other than that I have tonnes of free apps that seemed great at the time but I never use. Apps that I do use are

 

Pulse - quite possibly the most fantastic RSS reader out there

Opera Mini due to my lack of wiFi and decent mobile signal at home

IMDB

FBReader for the one ebook I own

Go SMS

WeightWatchers points calculator

DuckDuckGo

Official ebay and Paypal app

9S Weather for it's pretty clock widget

 

I had angry birds but my phone is too underpowered to cope with it.

 

Be aware however that without a wifi connection or decent signal most apps are next to useless!

* BBC News is the best news reader I've found so far

 

* Google Reader is handy too

 

* eBay (get the latest one, 1.5.0.16, as it has a nicer interface and can list items from phone via bar code scan)

 

* Google Maps/Navigator reasonable for a free satnav - the voice is a little annoying, but I like the use of road names, sometimes directions get repeated after I've made the turn but they are also given in plenty of time beforehand too.

 

* Seesmic, integrates Facebook and Twitter into one (also allows multiple Twitter accounts) so a comment can be set as FB status and tweet in one. It shows everything in your news feed though, even things you've hidden on FB, so my feed is unreadable because of FarmVille updates. On the plus, you can "like" comments, wheres the FB official one will only allow you to "like" a status, not someone else's comment on it.

 

* ChromeMarks to synchronise my bookmarks between laptop and phone (might need a Google account, not sure on that one...)

I'm open to suggestions for a decent "find me a ... near me" as the ones I've tried so far (Locations and AroundMe) both seem a bit limited, especially when it comes to pubs - I don't want a list of all the local chinese take-outs and chippies when searching for a pub!

Another vote for juice defender, keeps the desire s on the go for 2 days at a time. I'm a light user tho I think, and I only have the wife's older phone to benchmark against.

Just found Google's Chrome to Phone - sends links or copies text from Chrome browser on PC to phone, e.g. spend time on PC researching which product to buy, then send link, photo, model number etc to phone so you can be sure what you're looking at in store is the right one. Obviously needs Chrome on PC and a Google account, but pretty cool if you have both those things.

 

Along similar lines, ChromeMarks syncs bookmarks between Chrome and phone.
