LiamH Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Gah just found out one of my favourite tv shows has just been canceled. Not sure why they do it, Lie to me and house have been canceled yet loads of garbage gets kept on the air stargate universe has also been canned, and i know its far from the best but it was just getting good. and who can forget firefly... /rant
irsprint84 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I got upset when they cancelled sliders! though it did get crap near the end
sparkeh Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Lie to me and house have been canceled Lie to me yes, House no. It was announced a few days ago that House has been given an 8th series.
north-ict Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Some shows are meant to be canned like the new Knight Rider series which would have been good but they messed it up. I was a bit sad when they canned flash forward I was enjoying that. Sliders was awesome!
LiamH Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Lie to me yes, House no. It was announced a few days ago that House has been given an 8th series. well thats some good news, I think I read something about Hugh Laurie's contract running out soon though, and it might not be renewed.
localzuk Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Sci-fi shows are hugely expensive to produce, so justifying their existence is much harder than other genres. So, Stargate Universe had its work cut out for it from the start. Shows come and go, but there's usually something out there to watch. My current batch of shows are Chuck, Eureka, Big Bang Theory, Warehouse 13, Burn Notice, and White Collar. No doubt some will be cancelled soon though.
sparkeh Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Worst decision ever was to cancel Carnivale. Most awesome show ever.
Dom_ Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Did anyone watch Las Vegas? They canned it during the writers strike and didn't even finish the final season! Gutted!!!
MK-2 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 don't give me firefly. they cancelled dark angel just so they could run with that instead! i think lost had the right idea, get a story (albeit flaky in places) and have beginning and end and account for just those seasons. same as prison break, have a natural conclusion. 1
webman Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 One show I enjoyed which was canned after only one season, was Jericho. Fans complained and kicked up a fuss, so a second season was commissioned. Unfortunately, they made a half-baked attempt at it, the ratings took a nose-dive and it was then cancelled half-way through with a poor ending. Shame. But as localzuk mentioned, shows do come and go and there is usually something good to watch. If not, it's hopefully just around the corner
LiamH Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 yeah its the whole unfinished plot lines thing that annoys me, at least firefly had some closure with the film. I was hoping for that for SGU but apparently they have ripped up the sets and have no plans for it. Lie 2 me was the big disappointment for me though cant have cost that much to make.
penfold_99 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The series that really annoyed me when it got cancelled was Flash Forward, brilliant idea for a show but you had to think about the science involved i think the reason is got cancelled as was the american had to think to much to watch it.But at least fringe is filling the void at the moment. Just need a new west wing!
DrCheese Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) The only people at fault for getting SGU canceled are the writers for having such an awful 1st season. They had a really good setup but spent half the time on Earth dealing with soap opera style problems with the crew's family. I really didn't give a fig that Chloe's friends never liked her or that the commanders wife was having an affair. Of course, they did realise this but by the time Season 2 started a lot of people had already given up on it which is a shame. It does annoy me tho that the networks don't respect the audience that the show has and at least give them advanced notice of cancellation or a budget to create a TV movie to finish off the story properly. It really puts me off watching American TV shows now until I know they have an established large audience as I know I'll just end up frustrated when a show gets canceled on a cliffhanger. I was a bit sad when they canned flash forward I was enjoying that. I gave up after 5 episodes of that, as American TV seasons are so long they dragged the story out, only revealing a bit at the end. It should have been an 8 or 13 episode season, so the story could move at a decent pace. Edited May 13, 2011 by DrCheese
FN-GM Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I wasnt very happy when they brought ashes to ashes to a close. But in a way they ended it on a high and the show didnt get boring.
DrCheese Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Yeah. I didn't like the first season of that show as it was all very same with the first of life on mars "omg I'm in the past, this isn't real etc" but I thought 2nd and 3rd season were absolutely brilliant, probably some of the best British TV I've watched. But yeah, it's probably best it ended when it did, they couldn't really drag it out forever without it becoming boring or like flash forward, i.e only hints of the bigger picture at the end of each episode.
TechMonkey Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Chicago Code & Human Target have gone as well SGU I'm hoping will get picked up again at some point as it had that kind of ending. I was glad Jericho at least had a conclusion even if it was a bit rushed. Las Vegas was good but had started to get a bit flaky. I think one problem is that they try and keep shows going too long & the show just can't handle it. It's almost as if the writers are surprised and have to start chucking things into keep it going. @localzuk: Ohhh snap! With added Sons of Anarchy, NCIS & Fringe
SYNACK Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I too am getting sick of show cancelations, SGU did start of badly but it did get much better to the point that it was actually quite good in the end. It always seems to be the way that these TV 'people' never give shows enough time to actually work out. I did think that the final for SGU was really good though an as a sci-fi show had something that very few other shows now actually have; hope. Everything else is about the worst in people, the war on crime or cutting people open in various ways to try and save them.
FN-GM Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Yeah. Gene Hunt was a star! He was very well played.
Gatt Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 NCIS & LA, Fringe, CSI/Miami/NY, Criminal Minds/Suspect Behaviour along iwth Eureka and Warehouse 13 are our faves.. V 2009 still hasn't had confirmation about a Season 3 yet Was disappointed that FF was cancelled without closure though.. Glad BSG got closure, didn't like Caprica's Pilot - though the new Blood & Chrome sounds interesting..
Butters Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Game of Thrones, hope that continues for a long time along with Sons of Anarchy.
Hawkeyez Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Fringe, Bones, Chuck, Castle, CSI x3, Blue Bloods, House, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds SB..... erm... The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Middle & Raising Hope Did watch Lie to Me, gutted its been cancelled.
somabc Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip! Can't believe they cancelled that!
creese Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The 'Bones' spin off 'The Finder' looks promising from this weeks episode of Bones.
Dom_ Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Game of Thrones, hope that continues for a long time along with Sons of Anarchy. I'm still not sure about Game of Thrones - while visually stunning, not much seems to be happening in the episodes... They always leave me wanting much more (which I suppose is good, as I can't wait for the next episode). Perhaps I was just spoilt by Spartacus... :-D!
Dom_ Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The Big C was pretty good too - one the missus wanted to watch too!
