Did we go to the moon?

I used to believe it was real until I saw This website which clearly documents some of the problems with the photos (and yea, other stuff).

I find it hard to believe that any Hollywood effects team could have faked the moon landings...have you seen the quality of the effects used in films in the late sixties?

 

Most were sub-good, but the film '2001 A Space Odyssey' (shot in 1968) was a tour-de-force in special effects.

 

But just watch the hour-long footage of the lunar descent to the moon's surface, and dispel any doubt.

We did, and I have shaken the hand of two men (Conrad & Bean) who stood on it. In the early 70's my father worked at MSC on the Skylab project; many of the Apollo crews were actively preparing for the later moon landings while also being trained (by dad) to use one of the solar observation telescopes.

 

Anyone who genuinely believes we didn't can stand in the corner with the flat earthers and wear the dunces cap for the rest of the day!

I beleive that we as a species went to the moon and don't get the denials. Its like weird and damaging to look at it and say "oh well humanity couldn't have done that". Seriously what is the point of humanity if it can't even manage to get a little box of air up to its nearest neighbour.

 

Major scale advancement has been hurt by the space programs respective falls from funding grace. Yes huge progress is still being made in other areas but real 'for the benifit of all' R&D, the big scale stuff seems to be dead. All of its funding drained off into the accounts of a million middle managers and buricrats so that they can fine more efficent ways to shuffle paper and invent new ways to look busy wasting time. Society is no longer about doing but in planning and documenting the actions of possible dooing while insulating yourself from actually having to do it.

 

I think that this all ties in, there is not great goal any more and even the luster that space once had has been erroded by the cave dwelling denialists are far happier to beleive that we have not left our little ball of dirt - at least temporarily.

At the end of the day I have gone through the 'evidence' that it was all faked and none of it stands up if you have any real experience and knowledge of photography and basic science

 

But I suppose none of this 'proves' we went - even if you were one of the astronauts and said 'I was there' - some idiot could claim that you were fooled by extremely good special effects

The thing that fascinates me is that Apollo and the computers that ran it were no more powerful than a modern calculator. They where incredibly simple and efficient, the same with the space shuttle's original systems... which kind of begs the question if we could achieve that then why with the modern era of super computers haven't we gone back there sooner...?

 

Surely the amount of tech we have now would simplify parts of the mission.

 

Risk and money. The USA were happier taking risks back then than they are now, and they had a goal - beat the Russians. Now, there isn't a geopolitical goal like that, so any such return would have to justify its cost somehow.

And reliability. Who'd trust a Windo$e PC with bringing a space ship back to earth in the right place? Even with custom code, specifically written for the task, the landing computer on Apollo 11 overflowed very nearly causing an abort.

Technology and expertise (even 1960's technology and expertise) gets forgotten. There are so many millions of procedures and processes, it simply cannot start up again where it left off.

I sat, glued to the screen all day, waiting for the moment, clutching a little scrapbook. In the week before the landing, the local newspaper printed drawings of the mission, which you could cut out and stick in the scrapbook. I still have this.
