Ideas for display at lunchtimes

Hi

 

We have been asked to setup the laptop in the school hall at lunchtimes to show either a DVD/TV program. We have been showing topgear through iplayer the past couple of days, but this has gone down like a lead balloon (girls complained).

 

We have a few DVD's which the bursar has purchased (the simpsons is going on AGAIN today). But what else could we show? I thought about BBC News? Any ideas? Something that might capture the students a bit.

I guess it depends on the age group. I allow a sensible Y7 girl to put iPlayer stuff on during Breakfast Club and she tends to go for Horrible Histories. Whenever I look in, the kids seem to be absorbed in it.

Its a mixture we get in there, from YR7's to YR11's (6th form just go to common room upstairs) so finding something that caters for all is difficult, thanks for suggestion, might give it ago. More welcome....

Family Guy might be a good generic one.

Waterloo Road is probably also a good call.

Have them show their own content? If they don't like what's being shown, give them a camera and a bluescreen background and let them create something more interesting, even if it's their own take on the day's news headlines.

We had a load of Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny and the like DVDs bought. The Y11s watch it ironically, the Y7s watch it enthralled and the staff normally laugh the loudest. I have heard of a school that puts on an African wildlife webcam and everyone would sit watching bushes for the hour hoping to see something. Kept them amused but I haven't found anything similar to put on.

- a Google Earth tour

- TED talks.

- Prezi educational presentations

*In posh voice* Are you mad? Family Guy in a school?! And Waterloo Road would give them far too many ideas!

 

I like the idea of Horrible Histories (the live action show). We often have the music channels on as they're fairly generic, but you'd need a freeview stick or similar in the laptop.
