We use SIMS Learning Gateway but don't use it if you have a lot of comment fields on a marksheet. Made our marksheets run very very slow to the point they barely work. :(

We use SLG and a TS - although TS is reserved for senior staff who remote in to complete timetable queries etc.

If you intend to rollout the reports to parents via electonic form, SLG isnt that expensive because it will allow both staff to do the reports and then parents to see them as well as other information.

Although staff do find it a little more difficult to complete reports through a web browser than in the SIMS application.

Logmein access to the person's regular desktop. saves a lot of hassle. reserved for VIPs only.

Have previously used vpn, and then remote desktop.

We use RemoteApps here. Got the gateway server and the app server running as VMs using XenServer. Works a treat, cover supervisor can do cover on Sims directly at home while eating her cornflakes as teachers call her in the morning. Works with the free certs from ipSCA.
