Ok, so we spent all of half term (last week for us in cumbria) clearing out 30 years worth of junk from our workshop. Wow, the space is incredible - I can see the floor!

I also ripped down the old sign off the door which read "Audio-Visual Technician." Long gone are the days where the IT technician would sit around recording educational TV programs all day then copying them onto several other tapes just for them to end up lying around. (During the tidy-up, I eventually got rid of a 'portable' betamax player and 50-odd tapes.)

So to get to the point, I need a new sign!!! The Tech dept have all these fancy cutting machines so I can have virtually any design I want. I fancy something with a technical/IT theme, but it has to stand out and not be too complicated. Any ideas on font and maybe a bit of a computer related design would be greatful!!!

Haven't got round to photographing the old stuff yet. I have a vintage SONY tuner for hifi seperate system. Also an Acer anywhere 386 laptop with MS-Dos and Windows 3.1 on it (had great fun booting this up).

I also have 20 or so thin-clients which are acorn but will run windows off a citrix server if anyone is interested for a nominal donation. Will maybe post about this in the thin-client section.

Will port a photo of the door in a bit

Sorry, I should have said that I want the sign to say "ICT Support Team"

Here is a piccy of our door. You can see the red patch where the old sign resided.

I am really just looking for something different - maybe a geeky font or something ICT related.

Please tell me if I am just being stupid and should go for a plain lettering style!!!!

Got to love contract decorators haven't you! They'd paint around dirt rather than take an extra 15 mins cleaning a wall.

Our office doesn't say anything. I was very tempted to put something like:

"before knocking, please try the following steps - 1. Make sure it is plugged in. 2. Turn it off and on again"

I didn't think it would go down too well though :D

Personally I'd opt for no sign, then when a teacher sends a student to find you, they won't know where you are! ha ha! genius!

Saying that, out of the 4 doors leading to our office (it's lots of small rooms and old cleaners cupboards knocked into 1) only one door has a sign on it that says 'ICT technicians' and guess what, the kids always knock on the wrong bloody door everytime! All the others are plain doors, nothing on them. Scares the life out my systems manager thou, as he sits right next to one of the doors that not used! :D

Do any of us have anything unusual or interesting on our office doors? Mine is just plain green and boring... no sign saying techies office or the like, nothing. It has a lock though, which is the best feature about it. It's not uncommon for me to be out of the office, so if the teachers knock and don't get an answer, thats generally considered normal. I could take advantage of that...

The door has My Name and ICT Manager. Behind a piece of plastic. The door has a large window in it so they can see my home made ICT Technical Support Sign on the wall.

mines painted a 'lovely' shade of green called Guacamole which the site team use because 'it covers everything in one coat' it has a sign that says ICT Technicians on it, a poster for drama club for some reason, a little cartoon image of someone getting frustrated at a computer, and a big sign that says 'please close the door firmly behind you'

Oh and 2 locks, and a big brass knob! lol

Mike.

P.S I'm liking that sign by the way! :D

Ours is blue with a 'brushed metal' (eugh, OS X) plaque saying 'TECHNICAL SUPPORT ICT'.

It used to look like this for a short while due to some people using us as a shortcut to the ICT room next door

Craig, did anyone pay any attention to your signs? Last time I put a sign on my door no-one read it they just ignored it, like they do with signs that say Silence Exams in Progress etc

Our computer room just has a sign that says "Electrical--Authorized Staff Only." My manager's office has a basic sign, since no one ever bothered to order a real one. It simply says: OFFICE.

jonh: Nope. Only when the passage was 'obstructed' by equipment that we were 'working on', and actually stopping them and saying 'Hey - excuse me - this is our office...'.
