Longest working computer

our exchange server is a dell gx60 2ghz celeron with 512mb ram it happily chugs away doing its stuff server 2003 installed.

 

funnily enough it is our most reliable machine.

Does the 386 laptop with Windows 3.1 I use to configure switches via serial port count

does it run continuously? My 16 year old server has only ever been off when there was a power outage, and even then its for a few hours at most. I think in its 16 year life, its been down for a whole day in total (24 hours)

I've got a PC that's been going strong for over 20 years! I regularly up the RAM, 10 years ago it got a new case, and then it's been through 3 mobo upgrades. Obviously the hard drives needed to be increased over the years, and the CD-ROM switched for a flashy new DVD-Rw. The old floppy removed and i can hang the iPhone in there

I mean you gotta keep up with the times. Do i win..?

Stacks of old Wyse terminals, around 11 yrs old 32MB 233MHz - they boot 'windows' (terminal services) faster than anything with a HDD.

Very robust - but slowly they are starting to die, and can't get parts so easily.

Actually, a colleague reminded me that we have a working HP Laserjet 4m+ which is circa 1994.

what exactly is being classed as the "computer" here? some people saying they have a ten year old pc but have upgraded ram and changed hard drives and such may as well be up for the best roadsweeper award with trigger and his age old brush that has only had 15 new heads and 12 new handles!

Haha no only when required, booting DOS and 3.1 beats an old laptop on XP for boot speed so might as well go with the retro

The Evesham machine (that dates it for a start!) I use pretty much daily in the school Library is somewhere between 8 and 9 years old. We have a lot of kit, mostly HP, in the 6-7 year old bracket all due for replacement by the end of next summer.

Our school boiler system is run using an Apricot 386 running DOS, think it's from around 1986.

Plenty of D600's left here, they are our oldest and we are trying to swap them where we can.

That was my intention - If i was in the UK i'd expect an award from the LA for saving them money!

I can assure you that the Evesham that I'm talking about is as supplied by the manufacturer (with a few added spiders probably! )

My new rack mount server is almost 3 foot long and it works perfectly :-)
