Photography Course in School - recommended sales places

Morning All

 

Right, I've been tasked with getting a selection of photography equipment for a new course we're going to be running in the school, and thought I know I can approach the like of Jessops, as I have done previously, and even my normal suppliers for the cameras, but just wondered if anyone has an suggestions for places.

 

Wish list from the Art Teacher is as follows:

• Digital SLR (Canon EOS 500 or 550 D + Speedlite Flash unit)
  
• 5 x Compact Digital Camera (Canon PowerShot SX210 IS)
  
• Memory cards - 4GB x 10 (one for each person doing the course)
  
• 1 Decent Full Function Tripod for the SLR
  
• 5 Smaller tripods for the CDCs
  
• Photoshop (6 x licence)
  
• Studio Flash setup with backdrop for posed shots to be photoshop'd
  

 

Also looking to get 5 x HP ProBooks and an A3 PhotoPrinter, but these I'm looking at through other places, though if anyone can recommend a one stop shop, it might also be easier for the whole package.

You probably are limited where your school can purchase from - but the above site will give you a figure to be working too...

So long as they'll accept a purchase order I can order from them in the school, so I'll take a look at the site and see what I can come up with .. Ta

I would recommend a look at Jigsaw 24 for the Photo kit they are really good, I've had quite a bit of Media Studies kit from them and they are really helpful. The other place that is good for cameras is UK Digital who are based in Clitheroe and have a website they are good pricing.

try park cameras for buying cameras and bits&pieces. Competitive on price and know what they are talking about!

Seem to be about the cheapest on the Canon gear.

I've used Jessops for a good few years with an educational account. It is definately worth getting one setup with them as more often than not the quotes are very different to those displayed on thier website.

Also they seem to be able to get hold of a lot of kit not listed so its alway worth an email.

Bare in Digital Rev are Hong Kong based, you might not be able to claim back the VAT.

 

There's no mention of lenses, are you just going to be buying them with the basic kit lenses?

For the photoshop licenses, i have just bought a load of elements ones myself. I bought mine for £19.85 each from Phoenix Software.

I've not played with Elements since version 2, how much of the layering and manipulation tools remain in elements vs the full version?

Im not too sure but we have got version 2 too. The layout is in version 9 is different to version 2. I haven't played with the CS series before but i have been told by my assistant (who runs our photography club) says that elements will be just fine for what we need. You can download a 30 day trail from the adobe website though.

It seems to run fine on machines with 1.5gb of Ram with single core processor running at 2.8Ghz. We were looking at CS5 but the machines just wouldnt handle it.
