chazzy2501 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I need new Optical Mice to replace ageing ball mice. I need a long lead other than that it just has to be classroom tough. I've been using some Sweex mice that are ok but I'd rate them only medium tough. I need these to be tougher. I find that the weakest part is always the lead going into the mouse. Microsoft make nice mice but are costly and I find the Logitech mice quality can vary wildly even with the same model of mouse.
john Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I tend to get the cheapest Logitech mice from Insight, they are usually about £3 or £4 a mouse and they seem to last ok for us.
localzuk Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I always go with Microsoft Basic Optical Mice now. Yes, they cost a little more but they do last. I was replacing Sweex ones constantly. Since I switched them, I've replaced 1 MS mouse in 2 years.

I left him with the thought of any disadvantages before dinner and he might get it by the end of today. LOL! Could you imagine, batteries, crosstalk, mice swapping, theft! If they still made infrared mice maybe.. but otherwise what a nightmare, bad luck!

elsiegee40 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 As others, I have a handful of cheapy optical mice that I've picked up from eBay/amazon/... that are permanent spares. I also have a good selection of trackball mice for use with repeat offenders. Trying to buy 'robust' mice is a waste of money. The little darlings will damage even the toughest ones, so it's a false economy to spend more than a fiver, I think.

OverWorked Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I'd avoid Sweex. We recently had a batch of Sweex PS/2 mouses. They have a strange way of suddenly swapping x and y. Fixed by unplugging and repluging in the PS/2 connector.

It seems that they are importers of sumvision goods to the UK. We get these for a about £1.30ish. They have a mininum spend of £200 pounds when ordering, but we buy about 40 and get a bulk load of CD & DVD media as they're pricing is fantastic. They have a load of weird gadgets that you can chuck on to bump up the total. I remember that they were selling the digital photo frames for a fiver before they became popular. Michael 1
