Facility CMIS/ePortal and DC on same server?

Hello,

 

Due to some phenominally bad server building before I came into post I am not entirely happy with my one and only DC.

 

I have been considering just as an extra bit of backup to promote my admin server to a DC and replicate DNS/DHCP to allow logons to continue if my curric server falls over.

 

I cannot off the top of my head think of reason not to do this, but I know CMIS and ePortal are funny things and there might be some reason why this isn't a good idea.

 

Can anyone see any problems here? And no, getting a second curric server is not an option at the moment!

SQL, IIS & Apache Tomcat on a DC = not a good idea.

Knowing that eportal can be slightly unstable at the best of times, I would avoid mixing that with other servers certainly not a DC! Any chance of grabbing a workstation and upgrading that as a backup DC? Not ideal but might get you out of trouble.

Your Serco should be running on its own box / VM, not on with a DC or anything else.

In the summer Serco are rolling out a web based/hosted CMIS & ePortal which i think costs a little extra every year but would solve your issue of needing an extra server

Seriously though I've had to bring my own desktop in as we're so short. My staff laptop is an on maternity loan. I'm not sure what I'll do when she comes back!

 

Thanks for the answers guys, that's why I always check. My desktop is always on, so I'll just create a VM.
