RM CC4 Network Browser proxy configuration

Hi,

 

We an RM CC4 network. In the past we have been able to deploy and configure Firefox on our network (set proxy etc).

 

A member of staff has requested Safari, Opera and Google Chrome to be deployed.

 

I was wondering if anyone has managed to package any of these browsers into MSI's and configure proxy settings?

Why would they need the use of all these other browsers on one system?

 

If it is to show the students the differences then you could install all of them locally on his workstation and create a program set for the shortcuts and make him a member of that group. He could then show them over the IWB.

 

It just seems quite an ask for one teacher to want all those browsers.

Yeah your best bet is to install locally, although if you have a GP that states that IE must use Proxy Settings these will apply in Chrome as it uses the same settings as IE.

 

As for the others you could use a WPAD file which is locally downloadable as soon as the browser opens.

We have Chrome packaged on CC4 here and deployed to all workstations. The only issue is that we need to fire up IE with our proxy settings contained (and then close it) before chrome will work.

We use both IE9 and Google Chrome with no issues for either.

 

If you have an account on the RM communities website, theres a forum post with the details on how to create the google chrome package, but as @webman pointed out, google chrome is now available in .msi format so should be much easier although you will still need to add the .adm template to the management console to help you configure and lock it down sufficiently.
