I'm not reading the pregnancy one - it's only going to tell me I can't eat cheese, pate, liver, shellfish, fish, or drink alcohol! Nuts to that! Oh, and I haven't read it, so my body doesn't know I'm supposed to be sick in the morning - seem to have got away with that one!

Also got the Haynes Dad manual (How to be a brilliant father) , showing how to build toys etc. Quite good! We bought a travel system. I rarely use it. Let me show you what's better... Rose and Rebellion - Mardi Gras - babywearing! My R&R (on that page) rocks my world. Car seat for the littly, yes..only bit of our TS I used. Carrying in the R&R is light-years ahead of any wheeled contrivance. Ultimate ease of use, ultimate versatility..no bus issues, no shopping step worries, no need to hunt lifts, worry about terrain etc. I love carrying Izzy about - she drops off really easily in it, and likes being front or back fastened. Plus it's brill from a warmth viewpoint - you keep them warm, put a coat over you both in the rain etc, job jobbed. Izzys 13 months now, still loads of life in the R&R..it'll be used for #2 some day too. Hint for you - when they outgrow the TS seat, look seriously into ERF car seats..from a safety viewpoint, it's exceptional. I've got a Volvo badged Britax MultiTech in the Astra - good from 0-4+, street price for the Britax is £250+..from Volvo under the Alias of "Convertible car seat", it was £160. Immense bit of kit. Baby bath seat - good, cheap. Cotbed..never used it, discovered co-sleeping for the ultimate ease of sleeping. Good until 5 though, so may get some use yet. Travel system - has it's moments. Quite liking the odd looks with the carrier etc..nothing compared to the look on people's faces when I say "we use cloth nappies"..haha! Easy to use, and I have to say, I'm impressed with them. So were the nursery..haha! IIRC, a lot of ours came from the bay of E.. Lastly, well done on avoiding morning puke..my missus had Hyperemesis throughout. Every day, all day. We have gone for a pushchair/pram thing as well though... I do want a lot of flexability so that my parents/in-laws can choose what they want to use (in a ploy to get them very involved with baby-sitting duties from an early age!). As far as the whole "odd look" thing goes, I'm stocking up quite a few of those when I tell people we're aiming for (yes, I know it may not happen, and am fully accepting of the fact) a home water birth with hypnosis for pain relief. At this point I'd like to shout out very loud that I don't want to hear anybody's horror birth stories, thank you very much. When you're going to the dentist for major dental work, you don't want to hear exactly what's going to happen and what can go wrong. Ditto for surgery, and ditto for labour as far as I'm concerned! Real nappies - just looking at information at the moment, so thanks for those links. OH is a little concerned as a mate of his from work went out and bought a whole set (birth to potty) at a cost of £400 ish before the baby arrived, and then they didn't get on with them and ended up using disposables. I'm trying to tell him that there are ways around that, but I think that really put him off!

I think there's a very delicate balance to be struck - as you say, plans can and do change, but the last thing I want is to make an ill-informed decision. The way I've chosen at the moment, if hypnosis doesn't work, I haven't stopped myself from using something stronger; and if I suddenly turn round and say actually I want to go to hospital, that's easier than turning round at the last minute and saying I'm going to stay at home! And thank you for the positive vibes - all greatfully received!

And thank you for the positive vibes - all greatfully received! Good for you I was struck down with guilt at abandoning my birth plan with my eldest and had a very necessary epidural. My spirits were lifted by a cheery midwife who informed me that, when she had her baby, she was having an epidural before she got out of the car in the car park!
