Trouble is delivery is via City Link, still awaiting delivery of a dvd drive from ebuyer (not their fault), next day delivery, and from tracking its been sat at City Link since 6am on Thursday!

Call me dumb, but on looking at the plugs / carriers, I can't see the place where you stick the RJ45 in.......

Anyone got them working through a 4/6 way adapter ?

This may solve a problem I have of my AP being in the loft and my media player in the living room. I was going to start drilling holes and laying a new cable outside the house but as these devices have got better over the years I may actually get one.

I've got similar and the connector is at the bottom of the unit. They don't recommend plugging in to an extension strip. What I've done is plug the homeplug into the socket, then plug the extension strip in to the pass-through. Works okay.

I may risk it, the only other stopping factor is that the AP is in the loft on a circuit I did about 10 years ago. I was a naughty boy and made a ring on the already ring circuit upstairs. I was good and didn't spur off, I actually continued it all the way around the loft and came back again.

A sparky friend of mine who last year put in two outside sockets for me raised his eyebrows at my 'handy work' but said it was ok as long as I didn't go and plug in a load of 5 bar electric heaters.....

So I take it these things work even though my house as two separate rings for plug sockets, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and my special ring off a ring......

I used to have a couple of Zyxel PLA-400s and these worked fine with mains extension leads at both ends. Most manufacturers recommend against plugging HomePlug adapters into surge protectors though.

They work across the whole dis-boardso you could plug in most cases it into your lighting ring and it be fine, they won't pass over dis boards though or phases if your on 3 phase electric.

I have some Belkin Gb ones and they do not work on extension leads and I cannot get it to connect to the sockets on the garage ring which is on the same board (house attached to garage). I found the Netgear 85mb ones better at times but no I have moved this and run a CAT5 through to the garage it works ok.

 

At the end of the day if I can run CAT5/6 I will do as it is cheaper and probably more reliable. They are great for times when you cannot i.e. due to cost, not needing it to be permanent etc, just need to be a bit more reliable I think.

Well City Link eventually delivered, in the morning City Link site said estimated deliverey between 7:30 and 12, good job I left a note to deliver next door and didnt wait in, it apparently arrived at 2:30! Ah well, still like eBuyer for choice and prices just not delivery operator at moment!

I like City Link in my area they redeliver between 6pm and 8pm.

 

DHL deliver 9am - 5pm M-F only... and guess when I work...

its usually recommended to plug directly into a wall socket than extension (i tested once and you do lose a bit of speed). think the ones i have are zyxel and have been fine. the difference between them and wifi is amazing, especially stability more than anything
