adamjjh Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Just had our new costs for this years licenses through..DRUM ROLL.... Near £8000 cheaper than previous years. WOHOO! Not had my quote yet, how much does that work out at per user?
mrbios Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Not had my quote yet, how much does that work out at per user? Around £7-8 per user if you go per the amount of students + staff or £72.65 on FTE 1
adamjjh Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Based on the FTE figure ours will be going up by around 30%
localzuk Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Based on the FTE figure ours will be going up by around 30% Nah, just carry on using the Schools agreement. Do you have more staff than computers then?
jcollings Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Around £7-8 per user if you go per the amount of students + staff or £72.65 on FTE Blimey - I was hoping it would be a bit cheaper than £72.65! I think our current pack is around £26 per workstation so I thought they'd have doubled the cost but not nearly treble! We'll still save but not as much as I'd hoped!
mrbios Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Based on the FTE figure ours will be going up by around 30% What's your FTE? Our FTE is 117 and the licenses came back at something like £8500 for the year, before on the old agreement we were paying £15,500 for the year covering 600 PCs (all rounded / slightly estimated figures but quite close to accurate)
localzuk Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Around £7-8 per user if you go per the amount of students + staff or £72.65 on FTE What did that license? Is that just the desktop pack or what?
pagelad Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 We've been quoted £50 per FT staff for Enterprise Desktop (Office, Win 7 Pro, CALS)

If it's just for desktop I wouldn't expect you to be paying more than £40 per FTE on EES
mrbios Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Ahhhhhhhhhh it's £55.95 per license FTE The additional cost is coming from other addons, sorry that was my managers fault for giving me false information 118 x DsktpEdu ALNG LicSAPk OLV 1Y Ent £55.95 per licence £6,602.10Total 19 x WinSvrSvr ALNG LicSAPk OLV 1Y AP £45.75 per licence £869.25 Total 1 x WinSvrEnt ALNG LicSAPk OLV 1Y AP £295 1 x SQLSvrStd ALNG LicSAPk OLV 1Y AP 1Proc £455 1 x ExchgSvrEnt ALNG LicSAPk OLV 1Y AP £271 Total sell £8492.35 Don't think i see any harm in posting these figures.... we were looking to play off the people who gave us this price against another company to see if we can get it cheaper though

mrbios Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Is that just for Desktop... or have you got other licenses (Visio, SQL CAL, etc)? See my edit
localzuk Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What calculation did they use to come to your FTE count? ie. how many hours a year etc...?
mrbios Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What calculation did they use to come to your FTE count? ie. how many hours a year etc...? We got our business/finance manager to give us our FTE, so i've no idea myself
SteveJ Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 For Microsoft it needs to be any member of staff who works over 200 hours per year, excluding those who do not have access to your PC's/network (Cooks, cleaners, etc). Make sure it's calculated correctly before you place an order to save hassle in the future

For example, half of our TAs work part-time but they still work more than 200 hours a year.
SteveJ Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 It doesn't help that when you look at the MS site you see the American way (1x Full Time Faculty + 1/2 x Part time Faculty etc.) used. Why they changed it for Europe only MS knows....

We went through all that with our finance manager over the requirements, we're amost certain 117 is the correct figure for us.
teejay Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What happens if you have 2 staff doing job share, do you count them both seperately or as 1?
SteveJ Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 If they both do over 200 hours per year I'm 99% sure it'll be 2 FTE
mrbios Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 We decided to get 3 quotes for this, boy are we glad we did! mrbios Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 We're getting back to them to see if they got it right because we don't think they did
CyberNerd Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 What about contractors, eg when catering depts are outsourced. Or other 'employees' such as police/social services liason officers who work in a school but are employed by the LA. technically I'm not even employed by the school. I'm employed by the LA as well, and so are all our staff......
