MK-2 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 i've created a standard wallpaper for all client machines with just our school badge and a dropped shadow on. i altered it this week to add a bit of snow, santa hat etc just to add that little bit of festive cheer!! but of course ive now set a wheel in motion so that it will be expected on other occasions. what other ones should i do? i'm not thinking to the extent of google (73rd birthday of a swedish poet who died 200 years ago, etc) but the usual: xmas easter summer hols anything else?
gibbo_ap Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 halloween, fireworks night, pudsy (if approved, i got grief), fridays, 1
MK-2 Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 not too sure if we'd get away with halloween (i think a plan for a halloween party was put off once as we have a christian ethos to follow etc and doesnt fit in with the school). pudsey definitely i could, fireworks is a maybe. fridays you can bugger off
aerospacemango Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 St George's Day St Andrew's Day St Patrick's Day St David's Day These could be possibilities??? 1
Domino Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Ask each department for an important date maybe? Science could have an important discovery date, history a local event, PE a date a world record fell, etc,etc Might get brownie points for you in encouraging cross-subject interaction too ;-) as everyone could see what that subject would be talking about on that day 1
MK-2 Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Domino, I've already sort of done this. We have a few strategies the school uses for teaching and one idea was to remind kids of these strategies via the wallpaper. nothing too intrusive, but yes, having subject specific would be good too. Cheers
CESIL Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I have a graphic in the top right corner of our Intranet site that changes to mark significant dates. I have done saints days, valentines day, bonfire night etc... For Christmas I have a different related animated gif for each day of December like an advent calendar...
MK-2 Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Remember not to offend anyone... so my "celebrate hitler day" wallpaper might not go down as well as i thought? 1
Admiral208 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Remember not to offend anyone... I was going to do a halloween themed wallpaper in my old school once, just happend to mention it to the headteacher in passing, and to say he wasnt very happy was an understatement. Maybe I should have thought first about celebrating a pagan festival in a church school before mentioning it to the headteacher who happens to be a vicar!!
Dom_ Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Just check google every day and update accordingly :-P
