SimpleSi Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) New Nexus announced BBC News - Google launches Nexus S phone in UK and US Si Edited April 21, 2011 by ZeroHour
gshaw Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 HTC must be a bit hacked off that Google have dropped them as handset maker... probably something to do with Google wanting to kill off Sense?
Dos_Box Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 £549 for the unlocked version!!!!!!!!! If it was priced the same as the Nexus One was at launch I'd consider it, but not at that price.
localzuk Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 It does look like a tasty device, but it'll only be affordable on contract really. I'm never going to spend over half a grand on a phone...
tom_newton Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Another challenger in the game of "can we make Tom buy a smart phone" - this one's onto a loser though, battery no real improvement, but more "guff" = tied to the wall. Also - no keys = bad nooz for ol fatfinger here

Also - no keys = bad nooz for ol fatfinger here You don't have a Smartphone Tom! Wow that does shock me! I thought with all the technology in Smoothwall Towers you'd have been a gadget king! Please don't say you still have a Nokia 3110 hehe
localzuk Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 You don't have a Smartphone Tom! Wow that does shock me! I thought with all the technology in Smoothwall Towers you'd have been a gadget king! Please don't say you still have a Nokia 3110 hehe Not hugely surprising. He did do his presentation from a notepad at the Edugeek Conference... Its refreshing to see someone actually thinking about what they need rather than buying into the crowd mentality that is so common now. I've got staff who can barely use computers who've bought iPhones but don't use anything more than the phone/texting aspects...

SimpleSi Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 I'm sure some edugeeker will turn up with one at BETT though Si
Ric_ Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 The thing that annoyed me most was the fact it's virtually identical to the Samsung Galaxy S. I know I'm a bit vein and only want to get rid of my Galaxy because EVERYBODY seems to have one now but I'm not paying £550 for the priviledge. Now Exclusive: LG's 4-inch Android phone with dual-core Tegra 2 and 1080p video coming in early 2011 -- Engadget looks interesting!
Arthur Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Samsung's other Gingerbread phone is out in February 2011 and looks far more impressive. http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/11/exclusive-samsung-flagship-phone-with-gingerbread-and-huge-di/
tom_newton Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 You don't have a Smartphone Tom! Wow that does shock me! I thought with all the technology in Smoothwall Towers you'd have been a gadget king! Please don't say you still have a Nokia 3110 hehe Not quite it's a 6xxx, and the battery lasts next to forever, and it makes calls and texts. I *would* like to be able to do a bit more internetsy stuff on the move, but I am not willing to pay so high in battery life/size/touch-screen related irritation. I look at some and think so what, you can play some stupid game about irritated avians, or update your facebook on the train - these are not use cases of a phone for me. Edit: this does not mean I don't like gadgets.. but I am fussy. Canon 40D, Kindle, and squeezebox being my favoured electronic devices. If you ever find your UTM starts sprouting features more suited to a breville sandwich maker, you will know I've gone "all iphone"
Ric_ Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 @tom_newton: If you get that LG phone you'll score all manner of geek points for being able to say your phone has a dual core processor! We all know that geek points are what really matter - who needs to speak to people on their phone nowadays? 1
john Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 If you ever find your UTM starts sprouting features more suited to a breville sandwich maker, you will know I've gone "all iphone" But Tom I already have that, I turn one upside down and squash it in the rack with a cheese and ham mix in-between bread and leave it for a few hours in the rack and voilla Smoothwall Toasted Sandwich courtesy of the CPU and the UTMs hehe
Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 @Tom. You'll hate sharing a hotel with us 'geekers then. The first evening we are all together for BETT is, to the initiated, unofficially known as 'phone porn evening'. It really is quite a sight! 1
john Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 @Tom. You'll hate sharing a hotel with us 'geekers then. The first evening we are all together for BETT is, to the initiated, unofficially known as 'phone porn evening'. It really is quite a sight! I wonder what the splits will be this year, we were fairly half and half last year with iPhones on one half and HTCs on the other half (various HTC that we had so some Android & Windows), I bet I am the only Windows phone user now Ric is an Android user
tom_newton Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Samsung's other Gingerbread phone is out in February 2011 and looks far more impressive. Exclusive: Samsung 'flagship' phone with Gingerbread and huge display coming in early 2011 (update) -- Engadget Hmm.. a URL which finishes "huge-di" - is it only me finds that amusing? Well it probably doesn't stand for that... but it certainly ain't going to be "with huge battery and nice keys"
tom_newton Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 @Tom. You'll hate sharing a hotel with us 'geekers then. The first evening we are all together for BETT is, to the initiated, unofficially known as 'phone porn evening'. It really is quite a sight! 'sok, I quite like them as gadgets, but not as phones, is all. If I had the pocket space i'd take both
GrumbleDook Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I think I am banned now from this ever since I went retro at the conference and got my P800 out.
Dos_Box Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 As well as an iPhone, Blackberry a random Windows based phone................. No human being should be allowed to emit that level of EM radiation!
