Who has SNOW?!?!?

Batteries - It isn't just the holding of the charge overnight. Individual cells can die, and then there is no chance of turning a really cold engine. The battery needs to deliver 300ish amps for a short period, which is actually a big ask.

At about 5pm last night I got fed up of looking at the same 4 walls, so I decided to dig the car out and head down my Mam and Dads. Took about 40 minutes to dig the car out but when we got to the main road things were pretty good.

Within 10 minutes of getting to my Mam and Dads the snow came again and within 15-20 minutes the roads were covered again. We attempted to get home and got most the way until the hill at Maiden Law (Sylv3r will know where I mean). Had to turn back and sleep at Mam and Dads, but managed to get home this morning.

Just took 5 lads to push my car back into my space outside the house, and it isn't going anywhere soon. If work is on tomorrow I'll be walking in.

Thing is, it's my brothers birthday tomorrow and we're all meant to be heading out, but if my car is stuck I don't know what to do....

We've got snow! We've got snow!! About 3 inches and it is still snowing. Enough to close both my schools (I know, soft southerners!). The problem is the minor roads are like ice rinks and it just isnt worth the danger. I did get to work this morning as the head was dithering about closing, but I am home now and getting on with all those little jobs....

Well, I suppose I'll go dig my car out. For all of those that have been aching for snow to fall in their areas, I hope it comes as hard as it did up here - you'll soon get fed up.

No more snow overnight, just a -5 freeze. One school closed, one open. The problem isnt the roads so much as the pavements, they are sheet ice

*have you had any snow yet, localzuk?

Is anyone in a position to give me an update on the road conditions in Kent and Surrey. Specifically, the M25 from Dartford through to J9 which is Leatherhead in Surrey and also the road from Leatherhead to Epsom via Ashtead? Would be grateful for any help please!

No new snow here in my part of Suffolk overnight, main roads appear clear, though I haven't ventured far.

No idea, I'm in cumbria - but this site may help? Traffic England - Motorway Traffic Flow

Welcome to Traffic England and the "motorway traffic flow" page - gives you access to the CCTV cameras and everything

(the M25 bit doesn't look that great though :()

Kent is under a foot or more of snow. The ploughs have been out today, but minor roads are still bad.

Your best bet for the M25 is Traffic England - Motorway Traffic Flow

OH uses this all the time to check road conditons between Junctions 5 and 9 (or at least he did before he got transported to Oz!)

You can look through the Traffic Cameras and actually see the road conditions!

What did he do? Steal a sheep?

I've PMed GeeHubb, but I'll post my bro's report (lives in L'head) here too in case it helps anyone else

Passable - slowly. Minor roads uncleared but can be driven on. Epsom main roads should be do-able but maybe keep to A3 then turn off

And in the tropical enclave of Dorset ( t'other end from Witch!) we seem to have crept above freezing, may be even +2 C and now all that pretty white fluffy stuff is melting nicely. Just in time to freeze solid again overnight.

I know, us in the soft south don't know we're born :-)

Here in Surrey we're stuffed, I managed to de-snow my car earlier... it had about 8inches on the top of it but I never made it to work in it as it wouldn't budge over the snow, tyres just kept spinning so I went back indoors and used the company VPN instead.
