I did that this morning, warm water mind, from the roof of the car, not directly on the glass.

Nonsense - due to global warming we don't get ice on our cars now - we get permafrost! The end is nigh! The polar ice caps will get... colder...

Not having a car is a plus and minus I think..... yeah I don't have to deal with de-icing and driving on icy roads, but instead I have to walk in the freezing cold for 20 minutes and back when the snow was really bad in Feb this year (I think) I was twice nearly hit by idiots driving too fast and skidding onto the pavement! It's a good job I have quick reactions!

yeah last winter i walked to meet the other half at work as it was safer to leave her car there, was interesting watching all the cars sliding down the hill and battering into each other at the bottom

This really got to me! I don't have a car, and in Feb when all the roads had been gritted, and all the cars were having no problems getting around, I was still sliding around and falling on my backside! And yet, when the school was closed middle of the day, I was the one that had to stay behind with kids that couldn't be collected because I was walking not driving!!

I have a sturdy pair of walking boots and 2 walking poles that I use when conditions are very bad. I am terrified of falling over, having had to have surgery on my back a few years ago, and am ultra cautious. The one day I thought I could manage without in January, I slipped and sat down hard on the steep hill where I live... I won't do that again!

I used to leave it running on my drive way, locked the gates.

 

Now with the (sort of) new car I can get into a fully frozen car whack the fan on and the heated windscreen and it's clear within a couple of minutes.

 

I hate de-icer, awful stuff.

Rain-X is good. It stops the ice from sticking to the glass.

It's not something I have done for a couple of winters, but that was due to memory problems. I do remember just putting the wipers on when I had it applied and sheets of ice just wiped off. I'll hunt out my container of it tonight.

I've just checked the school weather station... the temperature hasn't shifted from -1.6 degrees C all morning.... lovely sunshine.

 

So much for being in the warm South!

I went to Clapham last night and it was unbearable. So cold standing around the train platforms after missing my train. Went further south near midnight and Croydon felt warm by comparison!

 

I've been watching MetCheck closely and the weekend looks clear in the south, most of the snow appears to be hanging round the coast. But with the temperature hovering near 0 any rain could easily turn to snow making it hard to predict. You guys in the North and East just need to brace for more.
