Windows Live Messenger 2011 permanent 40% CPU

Anyone know why its always using 40% of my CPU? Keeping my laptop fan at high speed and doing my head in!

Doing your head in, i'm starting to get so annoyed with the bloody thing i'm going to just stop using it soon!! driving me round the bend! stupid update don't know what they did but sure did something Grrr!

I have this, I think for me every time I have a chat windows open with a blank advert at the bottom, and it makes my fan start and slows my windows down. so I sign out of messenger close the process and resign in and it works fine because the advert is back.

I've actually resorted to using Pidgin instead to access my Live account as Messenger 2011 was crawling! It got to the point where I couldn't even type in the box it was THAT slow!!

Initially I thought it was my PC as I've recently gone 64-bit but reading this makes me realise that it's not my PC and everything else works fine on it just now so "boo!" to Microsoft!!

Yep, I think its simply the ads that cause the cpu usage.

 

I removed them right away and cpu isn't a problem.

Its a nice upgrade if you spend a little time customizing it

The easiest way to remove ads the flash ads from any version of MSN messenger is to simply add rad.msn.com to the restricted sites list in your internet options. This will cause the adverts to fail to load and simply display a white box instead.
