Not netbooks by the way!

Lenovo Thinkpad ;) great build quality, but expensive. I have a top spec x100e, which is netbook sized but far more powerful than any Atom PC.

Depends on your repair budget. We have some cheap HPs which have done great service for three years, but many are losing keys through malice. Not looking forward to the bill.

Check that the new (probably wide screen) laptops will fit your trolleys, and that the power requirements match or can be altered. Obvious you might think...

We buy Dell E5400 laptops with accidental warranty cover. All I can say is within 6 months the extra amount paid for this insurance has already been worth it!

We used Dells D530 - caused smallest amount of trouble. Before we had RM laptops (expensive) and Acers (rubbish quality). Dell re now my favourites, because of build quality and quality of battery - after 3 years they still hold between 2-3 hours. Only problems that parts are quite expensive.

Main problem with laptops we have is the power socket. Pupils pull the laptop form the trolley /(with power still plugged in it) and the power socket become a bit loose, after some time this socket is so loose that to make it charge the laptop you have to wiggle a cable a bit - which of course no one does from lesson to lesson. To replace power socket in laptop you have to change Motherboard. I would like to replace laptops with PCs but we don't have enough room/sockets in classrooms.
