FN-GM Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hi, Has anyone had any success deploying ActivInspire by group policy please? Thanks
KarlGoddard Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 We're getting ready to do this tomorrow Looks straightforward except the issue of a 64bit msi for ActivDriver... as posted earlier by phill99, one of our techs! Are you on Win7? if so how are you deploying the drivers?
FN-GM Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Windows XP. Im not sure where to start there is a .exe and i am trying to export .msi from it.
clareq Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 You should be able to use 7z or other zip utility to open the exe and extract the msi.
6Foot2 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I have been partway down this road already. As we use Windows XP Pro [32 Bit] I looked at this part of the archive: ActivInspire_ENU_Setup.exe\$_OUTDIR\Activdriver\Activdriver x32\ This folder contains: Activdriver.msi and 20 MST files. Not knowing what to do with the MST files I got stuck there. http://gyazo.com/aa97423ea3e51d485c7f95768d0023fb.png

As we use Windows XP Pro [32 Bit] I looked at this part of the archive: ActivInspire_ENU_Setup.exe\$_OUTDIR\Activdriver\Activdriver x32\ Isn't there a document on the Promethean Support website that outlines how to deploy network installations and create admin restore points? I think this is the one you want: http://uk.prometheankb.com/display/4/kb/article.aspx?aid=303902&n=1&docid=24360&tab=search Best wishes Gareth 1

I will have a look when I get some time [next long holiday?] Won't be creating a restore point as we had to switch this off after persistent virus reinfection was tracked back to the System Restore files/folders.
garethEds Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Thanks. Whoops - bad notes from me - I meant an admin restore point I meant an Admin Installation Point - like we used to do with Office with the setup.exe /a command. Gareth
TRobinson Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I have replied to the post left by Phill99 about how to obtain the 64bit ActivDriver msi but thought I would post it here too... Go to the driver download section on Promethean Planet here Download the 64bit executable and once downloaded if you run it from the command line with the /a switch this will create the msi to a location of your choice. Infact you create msi's from all our executables using the /a switch 1

Stuart_C Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Yep. Done it loads. You need to create an admin install then there's another app to add in the licence key and modify the ini file. I'm out and about at the minutes but le me know if you want any deatails and I'll write something up when I'm back in the office.

You should be able to use 7z or other zip utility to open the exe and extract the msi. i tried 7z and winrar and i cant see whats in the .exe it just runs the setup. Thanks
FN-GM Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Ignore me i have done it Thanks guys. Now for smartboard....
FN-GM Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 Does anyone know when you send out the driver MSI for it to install COm & USB drivers instead of just USB? Thanks
TRobinson Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Take a look at this Promethean kb article which should give you the answer... http://uk.prometheankb.com/article.aspx?article=310651&p=10121 2
AngryTechnician Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Presumably you can also add this in to the Property table using a transform. Haven't tried it since I used the alternative method given here, but it should work just fine.
FN-GM Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 I used an older version of the driver and that sorted it.
