nameless_tech Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Ok technical people of the edugeek world, I have a problem in the shape of a SANYO plc xu41 projector. When I turn it on I can the fans going, the power led goes from red to green. Then after 10-20 seconds the red warning light comes on and, the projector doesn’t project. Solutions I’ve tried: -Replacing the build. -Letting it cool for a week or 5 -phoning promethean and getting told to do the same things - Its also out of warranty Theories I have, I have seen mention of a thermal switch in the machine, which is stuck off. But i cannot find a service manual for it without paying. I have opened it up, but cannot see this illusive switch if it exists in this model. Does any one have any solutions, i would be very grateful Thanks
Richie1972 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 We've had this with a number of PLC-XE40 projectors - the first couple were, fortunately, still in warranty. This last one (one that was replaced previously) is now out of warranty. It seems to be a common fault and, in short, the projector is knackered. Looking at getting a PLC-WXE46 as a replacement (£760 ish instead of £1200 ish for the PRM-20A, which is the current one shipped by Promethean)
ranj Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 We had that projector and tried replacing the bulb, giving it a clean with no joy. Its knackered mate.
nameless_tech Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 thanks guys, I do have a lot of Sabyo plc xu41's on site , does anyone have a service manual for the projector or simular. thanks
DarrenC Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 You may find this is an issue with particulate matter getting in to the projector, maybe try giving the whole unit a thorough clean as this may help.
jamesreedersmith Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Reset the bulb timer in the menu system - it doesnt reset when you chnage the bulb and has been known to cause this .
bondbill2k2 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Did you find a solution to this? We have a Sanyo plc-xe32 with the same issue, warning light flashs (the lamp replace bulb light is fine) and we cannot reset anything as you cannot get onto menus without it powered on

vprey Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 if you would like to fix the projector email me i have my own and have repaired it many times a quick fix for the SANYO plc xu41 there will be a paperclip size hole on the base of the projector this is the heat trip sensor you have to push on this with some considerable pressure try it a couple of times and it should fix itself
fused386 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Hi, I know it's been over a decade since this post, but I'm hopeful. I've looked all over the base of my projector and looked in every hole, I can't seem to find the reset. I was wondering if you could point me to the right area? There is a reset on the back where the video inputs are, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm also a bit confused because the manual for my projector says the reset is there too, but it is definitely not where the manual says it is.
Boredguy Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 If you mean the thermal reset, it's inside the case, and think I found it easier to take the circuit board off to do it, but then again with the age of that projector, it might be easier to get a new unit thats more powerful.
SamanthaD Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 At this point I would suggest it is cheaper to buy a newer model when you take into account any replacement parts and, more importantly, your time.
