Adverts on the BBC?

Since when did the BBC allow adverts on the home page especially from questionable oil companies?

AFAIK, the BBC site only carries adverts for non-UK visitors, based on IP address.

Visitors to BBC websites from outside the UK get adverts because they are licence fee dodgers - any chance you have a strangely routed internet connection.

I have got to the International page from within the UK before. Try clear your cache and cookies (no pun intended) and see if that sorts it.

If you've got access to TV and can watch BBC World News you'll find that also carries adverts and even if you're in the UK you can look at http://www.bbcworldnews.com/ and you'll see adverts there as well.
