[ms office - 2010] Office 2010 are you using it yet or are you planning to?

Well, I'm very impressed so far with it, it's like 2007 should have been if they had not been concentrating so hard on the ribbon.

So are you planning to deploy it yet, or are you still awaiting educational pricing?

It will be at least a year before we even consider rolling it, because we have that much left of our ECDL course still to run and it's not fair on the candidates to switch in the middle of it. (aside from the fact that Litmus don't support it yet either.)

We are hoping to trial Office 2010 on a small number of machines starting from half term (next week). Assuming things go well (and it plays with SIMS) it will be deployed site-wide for September 2010.

Finished the last machine last week, and we're now Office 2010 site-wide (135 workstations).

Just as we've gotten staff used to the Office Button in 2007! I installed it at home yesterday. Saved a PowerPoint as a wmv file, though it took for ever. Seems to take a time to load as well, but I haven't had too much time to play as yet.

We've just had the disks arrive and I'm to include it into the new image for the ICT Suite which I'm to sort out one I have this darn linux box working (trying to install linux on raid and fast giving up!)

 

I like the look of it so far though, I have it install on one of my VMs and like DOS said, it's all 2007 should of been. It has the sensible menu names back and not a big "LOOK MICROSOFT MADE ME" logo up in the top left for a File Menu ..

Already got it on all admin machines going site wide when I get the time to push the image. Works great and everyone seems to love it.

 

Problems however are evident in its printing abilities of certain documents to certain filthy Toshiba copiers whos drivers make single page excel docs into 127 pages. This also happens with some Cannon printers but all other printers are fine. Does anyone know how to report a bug to MS about it as 2007 managed fine?

 

We are currently working around the issue with other printers and looking at replacing the copier with anything but a Toshiba.

Office can create PDF's nativley.

 

I don't think there is any need for acrobat pro any more.

creating pdfs isnt really the issue. Its the right click, select all, convert all these files to pdf, or the right click, combine all these files to pdf, or the open PDF and manipulate the file functionality that is required, which AFAIK office cannot do.. and nor can any other free software.

Office 2010 32 bit or 64 bit, lots of the addins and extentions don't work with the 64 bit version, even the Microsoft ones.

Yeah were hoping to instal it over the summer with W7 and 2k8R2.

I have it on my machine, and i love it - it is pretty slick, and i do love powerpoint.

How are you going to deploy it I have setup Microsoft System Centre Essentials 2010 which is an approved way of deployng it I just can't work out how to make a package any one got an Idea's ?

Were upgrading to win 7, so if all goes to plan it will be deployed through that using WDS.

We are only using adobe pro 8, but I actually found a FAQ on the adobe site saying they dont support officice 2010 yet even with adobe pro 9.

Office 2003 all the way here, if we are to change, the ICT teaching staff would like a years notice so they can re-write their worksheets. Plus we simply cannot afford it Edited May 28, 2010 by skunk

At some point they will have to change though, even if it is to open office or something. They don't still teach how to write with a quil pen in schools and at some point Office 2003 will be at that level.

We have the very latest version of Open Office but you can imagine how much use that gets.

The MS Volume site actually advises against using X64 versions and says strongly you use the X86 still.
