elsiegee40 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 For me, supporters are the people who have done something different or extra. It may have been cash, it may have been time on the Wiki, it may have been time on the stand at BETT or helping to get things set up at conferences, it could be people running projects, etc. The old badges of EduBett, etc have gone but generically they are supporters in my book. It could be that DB, the Admins and the Mods award them on who they think has gone above and beyond (outside of Rep ... because Rep does what it says on the tin) or they could offer 3 awards for it every 6 months and people can make nominations for it. Some other places I frequent do monthly awards, some use it to identify those with extra privileges (increased PM / inbox, special email addresses, access to beta sections, etc) and some are based on completing certain task (your mission today ....) Fair enough. I hadn't thought of it like that
buzzard Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I'm split on this, if you have "ranks" then accept it on a site or don't use it, but I do feel if you have "ranks" then it does cause friction. They are good to have say Edugeek Staff, Supplier and Member, you then know where peple are coming from. Regarding the images they're nice graphics though and do fit in well. Good job!
Guest theeldergeek Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I've got the Supporter badge, but TBH if you're not careful you're making it do the same thing as rep. Now there's a thought - the more rep you get, the more stripes on your badge, or stars, like in McDonalds...
mac_shinobi Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Now there's a thought - the more rep you get, the more stripes on your badge, or stars, like in McDonalds... To a maximum amount of stripes otherwise geoff's badge would just be a multitude of coloured stripes and you wouldn't see his name unless the stripes represented binary or something lol
sparkeh Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Now there's a thought - the more rep you get, the more stripes on your badge, or stars, like in McDonalds... Hmm something that visually increases as your rep goes up...something like a 'reputation bar'... Wait a minute... 1
vikpaw Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Now.. i just need to be able to click the "SmoothWall" bit, and get a list of all my colleagues: nile_c, robf, robot, ipballe, daniel_barron, gav, datalas... who else... I think claire & sean are on here, but don't know their usernames... and the MD is on, but he's lurking (hi George!). ahem, SueAinley ...???
tom_newton Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 ahem, SueAinley ...??? Oops! I forgot about poor ol' Sue! She never posts anyway, the social-networking-phobic numpty
Batman Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I don't like the "God" badge. I suggest that the label be made more compatible with the beliefs of those who follow a monotheistic faith eg. Christianity, Islam, Judaism Something like "Superhuman" would be better I think. Or maybe an edugeek knighthood/peerage, "Earl" or "Lord".

Do you also have a problem with Windows' God Mode, given that God him/her/itself is (probably) not actually using it?
fastsms Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 How about UberGeek? That keeps it close to home and avoids any controversy!
HTCIT Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Does this been I can get a supporter badge added to my user? As I helped out at BETT 2011, if so I would be a very happy Edugeeker.

You mean you didn't do it just for the prestige of wearing an edugeek t-shirt and all the free pizza you can grab?
featured_spectre Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I did it because I wanted to help...any additional shiny shiny that I get is a bonus!
sparkeh Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Supporters badges are historic and for people who donated money when this was an option. Surely Bett helpers should get the Bett badge?
Little-Miss Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Can i have both as i am a supporter and BETT-er!? Ha! Which is the BETTer of the two? tee hee.... Or can i just have my own special one created cus im so wonderful! If so, can it be purple lol
featured_spectre Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 purple is taken by sysman as the designer
Little-Miss Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 .......................................................
Dos_Box Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 You mean you didn't do it just for the prestige of wearing an edugeek t-shirt and all the free pizza you can grab? *sigh* And that used to be such a draw for us too!!
HTCIT Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 You mean you didn't do it just for the prestige of wearing an edugeek t-shirt and all the free pizza you can grab? No, I did it because I like helping people with thier problems with the tech/advise.
Gatt Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Why is this thread starting to sound like an Ad Campaign from not too long ago/ (Cant think what it was for - Bloody Donation or something with everone going "I did it..")
HTCIT Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm more burgandy. Like this then Well done SYSMAN_MK.
Domino Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm more burgandy. Like this then Stop encouraging her!
localzuk Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Almost the colour of the carpets at BETT it seems!
witch Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'd want a green one anyway - despite my weemee's taste in clothes, I don't wear purple very often Can I be 'eduwitch'? In black, of course, with bats, perhaps!
