Edu-IT Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Just want to double check. Would "heartbeats lost" suggest that the APs have lost power/network connectivity or something else?
john Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Yes it means it cannot see it so somethings occuring
RTi Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Are you running the latest firmware? we got this issue.. until we upgraded.
cookie_monster Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 We had a similar issue with restarting AP's, we updated to Version 8.2.0.1 build 8 and they've been fine since.
Edu-IT Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 We had a similar issue with restarting AP's, we updated to Version 8.2.0.1 build 8 and they've been fine since. That version was pulled due to issues - was running that until yesterday so could explain the problem.
Edu-IT Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Okay! Issues! Heartbeats lost, and now the APs are all disconnected. I can get in to them through IP but they're not showing as being managed in the ZD. Anyone come across this?
bob_uk2k Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Are all the access points on the same layer 2 network? What version of code are you now running? Can an access point ping the ZD IP address? Do the access points get an IP from dhcp or are they staticly applied? Rob

Do the access points get an IP from dhcp or are they staticly applied? Rob I think the issue was because the IP on the ZD was changed. The APs no longer seemed to talk to it? Not sure how you would go about changing the IP then without it throwing a wobbly. Also, I think there's a bug when you specify the primary and secondary ZD IPs in the AP config. Only one IP should be needed but it insists on having two. If you don't have two ZD's then that's pretty useless.
bob_uk2k Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hi, You shouldn't need to specify the ZD in the access point, if it's a layer two network the access points will find the ZD without any further help. Rob

I only have 1 and i the only thing i've configured as primary or secondary is dns. Realistically your APs shoudl just pick up the ZD, assuming you've checked to see if the AP connected fine to the switch, I would reboot the AP (physical power off and on).
Edu-IT Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Sorry, I was talking about where you set the APs to only communicate with a particular ZD. It's under config then APs I believe. I guess it doesn't need to be set if there is only one ZD. Anyway. Changing the IP address of the ZD stops the APs from communicating with it, regardless of whether the above setting is enabled or disabled. So.. I guess you can't change the IP of the ZD once its setup!
apeo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Oh right, the setting under Access Point Policies.. i think that came in on one of the firmware updates, cant remember which one. Anyway we dont set Limited ZD Discovery here because we only have 1 ZD so im no help.. sorry.
Edu-IT Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 Same, and it's turned off. You can still can't change the IP of the ZD without it going nuts though.
apeo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Must admit, I only changed the IP a couple of times during the installation phase but havent tried changing it later. I'll make a note that if I ever think of changing the IP.. DONT. Maybe a firmware update will fix it? every time i have a problem, im usually told to do a firmware update.

Already running the latest firmware. Anyone working for one of the companies with test equipment want to try changing the IP address of a ZD that is using the latest firmware?
