Hi I've spent the last two days trying to get a straight answer from link2ict and failed miserably all I want to know is my ftp address and login details for my website, And zimbra has completely cocked up our office machines only one of 4 machines connects the other 3 crash or refuse to connect via outlook, why did we have to change to this system? Can any one give me the correct format for the new ftp address??

thanks

Bit of an odd request, but can I create an account that can receive emails but not send them?

I could use outlook and not enter the SMTP details but ideally i'd like to use the web interface . . .

Grrr stupid Personal Message Manager Digest emails, why do they send a different PMM account for every alias? The head has, $headsname and $the.head and something else and each one keeps sending her reminders, why can they all go to one account!
Posted

PMM is really poo! From what I can tell the reason that PMM creates a new account for every alias is that it has no integration with Zimbra. It only knows about e-mail addresses so each different address creates a new account.

You could use the delegation feature to delegate "the.head" to "headteacher" etc so there is only one account to manage. Unfortunately this is done by the end user. An administrator AFAIK cannot override user delegation setting so they can set it up on a mass scale.

Until l found out about the crappy PMM I was going to go mad creating aliases for people but not now!

PMM was another nice little surprise that Link2ICT gave us.

New bug in the filtering, any image or document containing images that has any 4 letter word in the meta data is being mistakenly flagged as profanity. To get round this you have to zip the files before sending.

Great!

For those of you with iPhones it is possible to set up Calendar Sync using CalDAV protocol with Zimbra on BGfL

See here for instructions (follow exactly!).

Link2ICT had said they had disabled Mobile sync. Might now try IMAP syncing in my iPhone next!! :)

P.S. Zimbra have a Mobile optimised web interface which works well and you can access Mail,Calendar, Tasks and IIRC contacts too.

I hate this one, especially as there is no way to "release" an email. Instead I have to explain to the user what to do or mostly I end up zipping the attachment myself and then send it on - but it does cause some confusion for the recipient.

Yup, had this one too. I remember this happening with ancient mail filtering software we used over 10 years ago. Thought that modern software could differentiate between strings in the mail body and stings in MIME encoded attachments.

Is there anybody in here that has been set up as a Global Administrator? All of us techies at our school have been setup as Domain Admins and I just wondered if that was right or not. There are certain things that we just cannot do with that level of privilliages and we have to keep phoning BGFL

What sort of tasks can you not do as a domain admin? I know for example the bulk provisioning in the web interface is very limited. Also you cannot add aliases in bulk as a domain admin in the web interface. Quite a lot of the Zimbra functionality is only available from command line tools that are run locally on the mail server I believe and require some Unix skills to use.

Additionally I do not know if the domain admin can run command line tools against his or her domain. If this is a feature offered by Zimbra perhpas Link2ICT could give SSH access to tecchies in schools.

Zimbra CLI Commands

I think the limitations of the delegated bulk provisioning are due to Zimbra's lack of functionality in the area of delegation of administrative roles rather than a decision by Link2ICT

Here is a definition of Global and Domain administrators

The bulk provisioning is the problem we are having at the moment. We have to add the new users the way we normally would and then send Link2ICT the list along with a tag we want them to have so that they can been added to distribution lists. It's not a problem as they don't seem to mind doing this for us, I just feel guilty asking.

My first post but thought I would chip in.

The PMM is apart of the BGfL Webwasher filtering and not the Zimbra filtering but as Zimbra goes through the BGfL mail relays, you will get the PMM.

As Alis_Klar said, the delegation side of Zimbra is limited, which can be annoying from an admin view as well as a super admin.

In regards to the FTP details migrated from Netmedia, I think these are sent to the headteacher after the migration, if not, log a call with the service desk and they will get them emailed to you.

Lastly, don't feel guilty of using the Zimbra folks to do stuff, as if there was another way for you to do it, I'm quite sure they would tell you :)

Hi trying to set up our helpdesk account to blackberry internet service originally. That failed so tried to create in outlook,it is saying username or password is incorrect (during the test option) but i know for a fact it is not. our other accounts work fine. the only thing i can think of is that all emails are intial.surname at insertnamehere.bham.sch.uk but this is helpdesk@ at insertnamehere.bham.sch.uk.

i cant see how that could effect it. is there anything in admin that i should look out for.

details are correct because i can log in with that account from main zimbra page.

This used to work under the old system.......

All email accounts have to have pop access turned on by L2ICT, give them a ring with the accounts required and they will sort it out for you.

And there you go,helpdesk blackberry is go.

I would have thought it was done by default. maybe the account was added after the initial change over???

Sorry for the thread necromancy.

Is POP enabled by default on all Zimbra accounts. I've tried to tie mine with a Live@Edu account with no success, and even trying to connect Outlook at home is bringing up a POP not enabled error.

Only if the account was originally setup when the school moved across to Zimbra. Any new accounts are not enabled by default.

And I don't think student accounts are enabled by default but I would need to check.

Log a call. I'm sure the service desk won't be busy today :)
