Fontayne56 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I'm Soon going through our software rack and getting out all the old software the school still uses and see what runs on windows 7 and what doesn’t, This way I can let the departments know before we upgrade. Can we all make a list here of the odd little programs which work and don’t work for all to see !! Many Thanks Ryan
jsnetman Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 The old versions of numbershark and wordshark don't run. You need the latest release.
_Adam_ Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Install Med-V, then no probs. Although compatibility mode gives you the same, with that most should work.
mrbios Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 are you all talking about 64bit windows 7 i assume?
accura2000 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Kar2ouche Wordshark 3 Communicate in Print 2 Collins Virtual History, Geography, Experiments, World, French Interactive Teaching Resources Maths Base 1 & 2 The Above All Works fine with no fiddling about!
sted Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 im assuing x64 as im only using x86 as boot media in wds if someone needs x86 then they have xp i dont want to support 2 flavours of win 7 textease 5.98 /6.5 windows movie maker 2.6 open office 3.2 foxit reader 3.2 paint.net 3.5+ office 07 (yes i know but meh) photostory 3 smartboard 10.6 (minor issue on mandatory profiles throws up an error but works anyway something to do with maths toolbar even when its not installed) scratch java 6u17ish+ not found any 2 simple stuff that wont though some have required a new msi but their support is great and ive usually had link to msi in hours if that revelation natural art units of sound
loucoll-Dave Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 @sted info for the smartboard...i had this issue with the mandatory profiles.......i went to the location right click, propeties, secuirty then for that file gave everyone full control.........bit drastic but it works for me
mr_wordshark Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The old versions of numbershark and wordshark don't run. You need the latest release. Hi all - sadly, this is the case. The old DOS original Numbershark and Wordshark (inc 2L) are 10-20 years old and don't manage Win7. Wordshark3 and 4, Numbershark 3 and 4 work on most 32 bit Win7 machines. If you have a 64 bit machine you need our release 4.06 or later. Microsoft PC Operating systems
Vine Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 (edited) I'm going for the same thing here! Units of Sounds v4 will not work, being 16bit on 64 bit architecture. you'll need to upgrade to v5. Again Word Shark and Number Shark will only work if it's version 4.06. I'm having a tough time getting Test Base 32 / Exam Wizard 32 to work on win7 x64... currently using MS ACT 5.6 to get it to compat but I get in a loop.... "Use 32-bit version if running the 64-bit" and "Use 64-bit version if running the 32-bit". and it goes around and around :L any pointers? Edited May 10, 2012 by Vine
sted Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I'm having a tough time getting Test Base 32 if you create an msi for it on x86 xp it works fine its just the installer thats 16 bit 1
Vine Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 That will probably be why a couple of programs won't work Many Thanks!
K.C.Leblanc Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 if you create an msi for it on x86 xp it works fine its just the installer thats 16 bit If you're doing that bare in mind that all the exampro/examwizard/testbast stuff keeps it's licensing information in the same file. It's called Exampro.ini and I think it's in c:\windows\system. If you just capture the install you run the risk of making an installer that breaks all the other testbase products on that computer. 1

Many Thanks Ryan Good luck, when I done my testing I had 2 machines side by side, one I was testing the software and the other one was building the Image. One lesson learnt after having to start the base image again because an application killed the installation. You will no doubt still find issues after rollout.

I found that. I keep a copy of a full exampro32.ini file in MyDocs, and manually copy the contents of that back into the recently-installed one. Not pretty, but it works.
Vine Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's a blooming pain. I just wish there was a definitive answer "No this won't work, yes this is fine" or "Here is the workaround". Why schools find it necessary to use 1995 applications is beyond me

enjay Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Why schools find it necessary to use 1995 applications is beyond me Because they do what the teacher needs.
Vine Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I thought usability is lost with GUI interfaces as new architecture becomes readily available. I understand the argument "If it's not broke, why fix it" but surely as nearly 10 years has passed with some products, more resources become available to run on updated technology which would be in the best interest of Staff and Pupils 'In an ideal world'.

zlorimer Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 The only I problem I ran into was making sure users on a clean Windows 7 install had a registry key in place before installing the Smartboard Notebook 10.8 software. Other than that, everything I've run into has been a breeze with Win7x64.
