I'm currently on holiday in Brisbane - due to fly home on Thursday.

Although I'm missing everyone at home, another week or so would be nice............

Pay will be docked and they will need to claim loss of earnings from the travel insurance I would expect

I thought travel insurance firms were taking the view that this was an act of god and not covered?

According to an article in the Times, there is no such thing in the travel insurance world as an act of God (otherwise things like flood etc could not be covered). What matters, apparently, is the exclusions listed in the travel insurance document

The article I heard on the radio was saying it depends on the company. Some are paying out and some aren't. Some also said whilst this wouldn't usually be covered on their policies they are going to pay out this time round. Also if you bought your ticket on a credit card you may be covered. It was on Saturday's Moneybox on Radio 4 if people want to hear it for themselves.

No flight on BA until Thursday (estimated) so my boys will be here for two weeks or more!

I am not sure I would want them flying when its not safe to do so. I would not be happy with them flying just because economically its better for the Airlines to fly until a plane drops out of the sky.

Looks like my break next weekend is off the cards now :(

Still, got to laugh, first holiday I've booked in a couple of years, just a 2 nighter for a break, and a volcano has thrown a giant, ash covered spanner in the works
