I didn't realise that I had to pay call charges to the local rate number, parents were not best pleased with the £350+ phone bill Who remembers rushing to dial up to the IC24 free 0800 numbers?
tmcd35 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I thought that it was available around 98-99 too in limited areas Maybe the first NTL/Virgin customer but certainly not the UK's first I dont reckon I got my first BB connection when I moved in this flat. I moved here Nov 2001. BT had to come in and fit the socket filter, this was in the days before you could buy ADSL modems and filters off the shelf. Before that I had an ISDN line connected to Plus.Net. That cost me around £75 per month. When I first got a modem with Demon Internet/BBS's I ran up regular £100+ per month phone bills. It was a real money saver when the likes of X-stream internet and later Freeserver started up

I revisited those days of doing everything you can offline then going online to send it. I was in S Africa for 3 weeks and at times my bill was £5 a day.
