Where you get your glasses from?

I've never gone online but am sorely tempted. Fancy some John Lennon frames

 

My local high street optician had to send 5 sets back to their manufacturer as the coating was peeling on every pair. Got a free pair out of it in the end.

 

As we get subsidised eye tests from the LA I've been to a high street opticians that I trust for the test, and then specsavers for the glasses.

 

I'm a 5 year turnaround @ £300 person myself too. Damned expensive.

By "subsidised" I hope you mean "free", as you should be considered a user of Display Screen Equipment?

Specsavers ... and it cost me an arm and a leg last time. I need varifocals and prescription sunglasses. It doesn't come cheap

 

I have vericocals and because I'm long-sighted I have to pay extra for ultra thin lenses or I'd look like Benny Hill. They cost around £300.

Just in case anyone is planning on getting a eye test, I read in one of my wife's journals (she's an Optician) a few days ago that Tesco are planning on giving free sight tests for all in the near future. You'll be under no obligation to buy specs from them to be able to qualify for the free test. They have piloted it in a few areas and it seems to have worked well.

Regardless of Tesco's offer, if you are required to do a significant amount of work with computers, your employer is legally required to provide an eyesight test.

New here but a passing thought... as so many of you have football club flags and similarly seem to "support" their favourite specs retailer - be it on-line, high st, supermarket.

 

Do we support our local/favourite shops/stores?

Do we support them willy-nilly?

 

Or is it good service that makes us loyal?

Or price?

 

Imagine if Tesco had a football team!

I just bought my first pair of glasses in about 4 years last night :-(

 

Went to a place called Optical Express in the Trafford Centre, two designer pairs with all the various coatings and scratch proofing on them for £296, including a pair of prescription designer sunglasses. Seeing as I had budgeted to replace my sunglasses this year anyway, I felt that was a reasonable price to pay.

As I said in a previous thread, always best to shop around. The same pair of glasses and frames were £90 cheaper in Boots than in Optical express.
