featured_spectre Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I see the points on BOTH sides of the fence, on the one hand, we do not know what the OP asked for (in terms of the exact model), and on the other we do not know what Simon quoted for (in terms of the exact model), as well as the fact that we do not know if the OP checked over the quote before writing out the order as per quotation ref###. I have had on 1 occasion where we received the wrong RAM for a bunch of Toshiba Laptops, I rang Simon, it was a mistake his end (or the suppliers end, I do not remember which to be honest) and within 2 days I had the right RAM and was fitting it like a trooper. Generally Simon has been a good supplier and I have only ever had that 1 issue which was sorted in lightning time.
dwhyte85 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) Dell, and other computer manufacturers, change kit on a weekly basis. You can't possibly expect them to be able to provide the same model 6 months later if you're buying from Dell/HP/Acer etc. If they do then it's a bonus but to assume the same make and model will be available after that time is wrong. When making any large purchase check the order. It's simple as. Five minute job and can save a whole load of hassle. The reseller had been told, at the time that the D630 was still available, during the order process it may have come to EOL but... presumably the acc manager at Dell would have told the reseller who we used, but... this it didn't happen. Dell on any level are not great for communicating anything, it was kind of a comply or die situation, in our case it was if you don't like Vista tough... problem being on a very aged Novell network this caused too many issues. Of course, you're entitled to an opinion, I'm stating the fact that Dell are not great with communicating changes, reading e-mails, reading prior e-mail notes or resolving issues - from my experience at least. SpuffMonkey Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Well - a lot of comment. I thought I was pretty fair with the initial comment, and accepted I should've checked the shipment more closely - but I asked for and ordered (in writing) DVD writers. I told Simon of the mistake and he told me on the phone and by email that he would rectify the situation - but he didn't. I think its fair to let people know that a supplier might not be quite as helpful after they have your money than they are when they are pitching for your business.
somabc Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 somabc: note quite true if you read what Simon has posted if the purchase order submitted by the buyer did state DVDRom/CDRW based of the quote they received from CP then the buyer has entered into a contract to buy DVDROM/CDRW drives and not the DVDRW he actually required. Ben Yeah that is what I meant if the customer orders the wrong part then there is no recourse.
GrumbleDook Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I have said that the OP might not be faultless in this (which Kev admits too) but my point has been, and remains, that if you ask a supplier / reseller for a quote then there is a reasonable expectation for it to be correct and not have to chase problems. I will continue to say rubbish to people that push all the problem back to the OP and if my horse is high then at least I know that I am happy to go back into the stalls and muck out when needed. I was also disappointed (as already mentioned) that in the 6 months where this has been going on, it only took one post on here by the OP to get Simon to say that he will be back in touch the next day with the OP. I take the same attitude with this as I would for other suppliers ... it should not take action on a public forum to make you do a U-turn. I am just being consistent with what I have said about other companies ... and it is always backed up with the idea that should the company improve then that will be a good thing to discuss as well.

Well if thats the full story then you are 100% in the right and tbh i wouldnt be doing any more business with CPltd if that were me. If they cant even deal with a £200 problem, what happens when you have ordered £20k of servers from them and something goes wrong? Why do people go through account managers when the likes of ebuyers online store is just as cheap, if not cheaper? Sopposedly to sort problems like this with ease. 6 months is just shocking.

Sopposedly to sort problems like this with ease. 6 months is just shocking. Well I can only relate my own experience but I use a good account manager for the extra benefits they can bring. An example: 2 days before OFSTED a projector bulb blows. It evening time and I phone Simon, he goes away and finds a replacement that can be with us next day. I phone him a couple of times during the day and he provides updates about the location of the bulb on the road. Try getting ebuyers to do that.

mac_shinobi Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Parcel tracking online? That does not give much more info as it only shows its reached such and such a depot and then its out for delivery and thats about it.

But it WAS the same model and I did check the model name - they just happened to make both desktops and towers!! Anyway, as has been said, we can't really comment any further as we dont have the full details. It is a salutary lesson in checking a quote, and one that I shall take notice of in the future (I do try to check but it is nice to be reminded) BTW - only me is me, in case you wondered!! Butuz Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I think the moral of the story is - don't just blindly sign off/order quotes and assume they are/were correct. I am surprised at some peoples comments on here, particularly Grumbledook's! If I was grumbledook's network manager and he pulled me up as to why DVD writers were not fitted, and it transpired to be because I did not double check the quote was 100% correct - I would expect Grumbledook to pull me into his office and give me a right royal rollicking. I am actually quite shocked that Grumbledook is on here bad mouthing CP Ltd simply because the NM/techie involved did not double check his quote before ordering it!!!!! Butuz

If you cant even read my post properly... Obviously you know alot about talking to customers eh I think we'll be thinking twice about giving you any of our money if that is your attitude. Well I can only relate my own experience but I use a good account manager for the extra benefits they can bring. Hmm, again im sure thats what i said, well sorry i gave an example of the "extra benifits". Try getting ebuyers to do that (See pic below) Whats that? Oh there it is What with all the bum chumming of late? Am i not allowed an opinion which upsets your "friends"? Edited March 4, 2010 by Guest

sparkeh Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Hmm, again im sure thats what i said, well sorry i gave an example of the "extra benifits". Well you asked a question and I answered it. I can't quite see why you are getting upset with that. What with all the bum chumming of late? Am i not allowed an opinion which upsets your "friends"? Scanning back over the thread I can't see that anyone has tried to stop you voicing your opinion. Not quite sure what you are insinuating here but "friends" as you put it has nothing to do with it. I have used CP many times and had great service. In the interests of fairness its right and proper that people relate good experiences as well.
Edu-IT Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Scanning back over the thread I can't see that anyone has tried to stop you voicing your opinion. Nobody has told you your opinion is RUBBISH! so think yourself lucky. Do eBuyer give you a dedicated point of contact if you have issues or is it some call centre in Sheffield where you have to sit in a queue? They'll update you during the packing process but not when it leaves their warehouse. That is down to the courier. Same with all companies to be honest. Just with a company advertising on here you usually have one person who you can shout at if need be.
Guest Guest Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) They'll update you during the packing process but not when it leaves their warehouse. Err yes they do. //Wait there, i see what you mean. How exactly do CP do that? Oh yeah, they ask their courier. How exactly is that different to what i can do on ebuyer, other than it takes longer? Not quite sure what you are insinuating here but "friends" as you put it has nothing to do with it. So whats with the "Thanks to sparkeh from: CPLTD (Today) " for agreeing with your opinion? I always thought the "Thanks" button was there gives thanks for a useful or informative post, not so people can brown nose each other. Hey, i stated an opinion, i made sure it said "IF the OP is telling the truth" before it, and i get slated for it. Yep, i see how that one works out. Edited March 4, 2010 by Guest
alan-d Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 @ GD - When making a purchase with a debit card - do you check the amount before entering your pin number or are you certain that the cashier has got it right? If the latter can you tell me where you shop please?

I am actually quite shocked that Grumbledook is on here bad mouthing CP Ltd simply because the NM/techie involved did not double check his quote before ordering it!!!!! Butuz I am bad mouthing any supplier who can't prepare a quote based on what is requested a customer ... and yes, I would give you a rollicking to, but I would also tell the supplier to buck their ideas up and not put my staff in that position if they want any more business from me. I am also shocked at the number of people that are defending a supplier who has made a mistake. What was quoted is not as what was requested. The OP has clearly stated that. It has not been refuted by Simon and instead we have people saying it is all down to the OP. That is why I keep saying 'Rubbish!' to people. Personally I think the OP has been pretty clear about his perception of it all and nothing has been said by Simon to refute that. I know CP are a good supplier and have had good business from them before, I do suggest them as an option to folk but I am also critical when things go wrong. In this case something has gone wrong and some of the fault lies with CP. We have examples mentioned in this thread of when similar has happened with Dell, and we could find it with others too ... Yes, corners were cut but that is because someone built up a relationship of trust with a supplier and presumed that the expertise of them would mean that it is unlikely for something to go wrong ... that is why we build up relationships with account managers after all. In this case something did go wrong, that trust has broken down and a member has posted the information.
Haptic Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 i do have to say that because of our client confidentiality terms I cannot go into the complete details of this order so will just sit and take the assumptions on the chin;)
