laserblazer Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I've just signed up to move my home landline to TalkTalk from BT. I'm told we will pay the same landline costs but all UK landline calls are free plus some overseas, including Portugal, where my family live. I'm keeping Orange as my ISP because I 'm just too reliant on my email address. Has anyone any experience in changing to TalkTalk?
SC-UK Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 We changed about 18 months ago, and managed to get out of contract early 2 months later. Absolutely useless service - or at least thats what we found anyway. Phone would go dead for hours at a time, no dial tone or anything. Customer service not bothered either. Same physical line/same phone worked fine with BT before we changed, and has worked fine ever since we changed back. Sorry to be possibly the bearer of bad news! 2
CHR1S Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 My 90 year old grandparents still get balif letters and court summons from tiscali/talk talk who they have never been with! Biggest bunch of cowboys ever!!! 1
ful56_uk Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I was with them 2 months and I'm that time they lost 5 mac codes to move my broadband told them to poke it 1
elsiegee40 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 We've just jumped ship from BT tonight. As Sky customers we've gone to them... our line speed is currently rubbish.. so we may as well pay half the price for the service (though you never know Sky might actually do something about it) Couldn't help noticing that the only time you seem to speak to a UK call centre for BT is when they're trying to persuade you not to cancel! 1
Edu-IT Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Been working fine here for 25 months or so. Register at http://www.talktalkmembers.co.uk and if you have ANY issues the OCE's there will resolve them. Cannot fault their work, far better than the telephone support. I think we've only had an hour or so when the phones went down. 1
laserblazer Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Talktalk has been running for a few weeks now and apart from the voicemail not kicking in immediately, no problems. They did say I might get a disconnection charge from BT and earlier in the week I got an ebilling thing from BT that I was unable to access. Just got a call from BT to say that it was my final account and I was £34 in credit, which has been transferred back to my bank account
dpittaway Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 There are a hell of a lot of bad reviews on TalkTalk, but that is always for their 'internet service provindings', so they might be ok for just a landline. I would never ever consider getting internet off them. Going somewhat off-topic, but I would always recommend O2 for adsl broadband, both in price and the service you get!
TheRedGuy Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I've just signed up to move my home landline to TalkTalk... ITS A TRAP! (Which I will elaborate on when time permits)
laserblazer Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 All seems well so far but there was a voicemail today asking me to call them for an important message by pressing "2". This came back as an invalid input. I guess they are just trying to sell me something and will call again if it's urgent.
elsiegee40 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Glad it's gone Ok... our move to Sky was successful too. We moved the whole lot: phone line and broadband to Sky and have inclusive calls too. The line speed jumped from it's regular 0.72Mbps to 3.59Mbps as soon as we changed. We're delighted... and the package costs us nearly half what our line/calls/broadband package with BT did!
tom_newton Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Been with TalkTalk for ages. Only time I used their cs it was a uk call centre, answered i seconds. Biggest gripe: they keep wanting me to switch to their broadband, which I won't touch with someone else's as my ukonline is costly but uber-reliable.
laserblazer Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Just tried calling an 0844 number to find restrictions imposed. Seems they cocked up the direct debit so the bill hasn't been paid!
jamesb Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Just tried calling an 0844 number to find restrictions imposed. Seems they cocked up the direct debit so the bill hasn't been paid! I had a letter from them a few days ago to inform me that, after I cancelled, they've continued taking payments. I can expect a refund shortly.
