I need a Wiki

I want to create a wiki for another forum (non IT suprisingly! lol) and was wondering which one people recommended. Google came up with hundreds and i havent a clue where to start!!

 

It's not going to be massive and i'd like something newbie friendly for the peeps who will be adding the data!

Has downloadable "Stacks"; This means Apache, PHP, Mysql + Package are downloaded and ready for configuration, you just type whatever information is asked and at the end of deployment, you have a working enviroment, no need to fuss around getting everything to work.

 

I use Bitnami Tracks stack to keep a grasp on the numerous projects that I undertake, makes everything easier rather than worrying about configuring everything.

 

DokuWiki and MediaWiki are there as well for download.

Do you want self-hosted? What sort of permissions controls do you want? Do you want WYSIWYG editing?

 

I tend to use Google sites myself because of the interface and because it just works(and I don't need advanced permissions etc). I did look into self hosted wikis and ended up trialling MediaWiki. It was fairly easy to set up and build a site with good navigation (and I know MediaWiki is updated and fixed regularly where as some Wikis haven't been updated for ages).

If it's for a forum, you will want it to bridge properly (so users can move seemlessly inbetween)..

 

In which case look for wiki's in the mods section of where the forum is from (assumming it has one)..

 

You will proberbly only have a choice of one or two after that..
