I found going in sideways under the board worked better than going down the access hole illustrated. The switch is quite obvious when you see it and doesnt need a lot of pressure to push back home. TechSupp Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Got a similar problem with a Sanyo PLC-XW57, anyone found out if these have a similar thermal reset switch/trip and if it can be reset in the same way? It just powers up with fans running for a while then just goes to power led red, no lamp light etc. Teacher had been reporting it was tripping out on overheat but the filters were being cleaned very regularily because of this. Image had started to become dull as well although the lamp hours are very low (checked last week ehn reported that the image was not as bright as it used to be). Edited February 25, 2010 by TechSupp

Uplift Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 hi, i'm having a problem with my SANYO XE 40. When i power it up the green light comes on and i can hear fans power up... however after about a minute the POWER light turns red and start flashing, then it powers down... i've tried the steps in this thread but it looks more like a button than a switch and can't be pressed. The lamp looks ok? and the 'replace lamp' light isn't on.. any ideas?
MbroTech Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 If it powers up then down it sounds like it could be a soft thermal trip which won't need the machine pulling apart. Have you cleaned the filtersor checked the lamp timer.

MbroTech Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 No, if it gets hot it will close down till it is cool enough to operate. If it gets too hot the physical trip will go and the projector won't turn on at all until it is reset as explained above. If the machine is turning on and then turning off then it isn't that switch. There are some settings within the service mode that increases that max temperature and fan speed to make that less likely, but it is noisier and you can mess up other settings if not done correctly. I'm not an expert though, but that is my understanding.

I don't want to buy a lamp if it's not the lamp as it's really expensive, and i don't want to pay for support (out of warranty) if it's just the lamp. lol Does it sound like there is an internal error or is it the lamp? TechSupp Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Had this ourselves and we got it reapired under warranty, they reported it as being a "bulb fault" what ever that means.

MbroTech Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 You're quite welcome. We have a LOT of these projectors so I'm quite used to doing it now. That said it's only a very small proportion of the whole batch and we are into year 3 of these now.

MbroTech Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Oh we change the lamp at the relevant intervals. It's totally unconnected. We had a chunk fail like this shortly after installation when new. Promethean had a fix for it which invovlved going into the service mode and stepping up the fan speed and thermal cut out temperature, but it still happens on occasion. Note that the Promethean branded PR20s never had this issue even though they are otherwise the same projector.
steveferrro Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Hi, does the PLC-XW200 have a thermal switch also? I have taken lid off to have a look but couldn't see it. (the projector tries to start, then shuts down after few seconds with red warning light on) The bulb is OK. Thanks
