High spec laptop needed...

We are in the market for a high spec laptop.

 

Its for our media technician and is going to be used for video production.

 

It needs

 

17" screen minimum

Large hard disk

fast processor

4gb RAM

decent graphics card

firewire

Blue Ray with DVD burner.

3yr warranty

 

SVHS input would be nice

 

and as usual we would like to do this for the lowest cost possible.

It won't be cheap, but if it's going to be used for Video stuff, I would seriously recommend a 17" MacBook Pro with an external Blu-Ray drive.

 

It just depends really on exactly what you're going to be using, and how much you want to spend!

Buy a sacktruck I would say the MacBook Pro but it's still a bit of a compromise. By SVHS do you mean S-Video?

As for the graphics card he is not playing Crysis so anything that is going to work for video production will be fine.

getting that spect laptop is so expensive, can get a desktop with spec for about £600 on ebuyer

probably not. faster disk speed would be more useful.

TBH - 2*desktops would still be better value.

Take a look at the Dell Vostro 1720 Should be able to get the following spec for under £900.00

the ATI 4870 or there abouts should be good enough for video editing ( does the screen have to be 17" ) but as per above I would go with the mac book pro

This probally does not meet all your requirements, but is still a bargin for the price, and worth having a look at on the offchance it has a 1/2 decent graphics.
