Safer Internet Day - Insafe

Safer Internet Day 2010: Welcome

I've spent today reviewing policies and am getting ready to drive forward our e-Safety presentations to children and staff next week... the parents will have to wait until after half term.

I intend to frighten the life out of the staff by getting them to look themselves up 123people.com... I've done a few already... interesting!

I've also been working with the 'Safeguarding Children' team to make sure that e_safety, etc is builtin to all our other policies; Child Protection, bullying, etc. The P-word (Policy) has become a bit of a swear word in school recently, but we're getting there. Dafeguarding Children is very important to Ofsted now. We're inspected by ISI, being independent, but wherever Ofsted go ISI follow on!

We've also registered the school website with CEOP so we can use their graphic to incorporate the Report button in our website.

If you want to do this (and personally, I think all schools should), you can register here:

Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre - Digital Assets Library

On confirmation of your registration, you can then download the buttons for CEOP and ThinkUKnow.

Not sure if my school is doing anything or not. But thanks for the link to register the school web site, which I think is a really good idea. I've passed that on to our web master.

I suspect we're not doing anything yet. Will poke relevant people to gauge enthusiasm.

We'll probably be having a discussion about how music that automatically plays on page load is evil.

Staff have been told kids must not go on youtube unsupervised. As the AUP states they must not go on computers unsupervised in theory that should cover it. Trouble is, a lot of staff think the rules don't apply to them!

Our new AUP, tells staff that it is part of their contract of employment... they're not happy, but no signature = no logon and they are signing that they must supervise children using school computers at all times

I just have youtube locked down here and the staff have been told many a time that students should not be using their computers unsupervised. Message has got through and have virtually no problems now. Thanks for the 123people idea, I've let my HOD know and she was amazed at the amount of information on there.

Has anybody knocked up or found some nice new desktop wallpaper for Safer Internet Day 2010? Not the ThinkUKnow stuff as I already have that.

Thanks
