And so it should be! It's been around a lot longer! CMIS is now a lot better then it was, as Facility iron out all the issues. It can only inprove.

 

At the end of the day it has forced Capitia to get off their arses and improve SIMS & given schools at a choice of MIS software.

I have written an ASP application for room booking that some of you may find useful, called SiCS Lite.

It is totally web based and supports 1 and 2 week timetables. Period lables can be changed to eg. lunch or break etc.

Users can delete their own bookings and view other people's.

User details can be bulk uploaded via a csv file.

 

A free (externally hosted) demo can be set up for schools to use for a month. There is also an online public demo to try out.

I am getting a fair chunk of pressure from the Head/Deputy to seriously look at whether it is worth moving to Facility CMIS.

 

I even had to go through 30 mins on the phone with a sales drone who failed tolisten to the fact that I used to work at a school that did the move ... I know how long it takes ... and how crap their support can be at times

 

There is also the factor of things actually working as they are. We are not going to gain much by moving to CMIS ... there are some things but not alot. And the upheaval and staff training implications are just not worth it atm.

 

But I still have to stick all this on paper ... and make it official.

 

In 2-3 years time, when we have staff actually using our MIS properly for student information and recording data ... if SIMS doesn't do what we want we will look at our options, but at the moment it does, and will do for the near and mid-term future.

 

I can't say long term because no-one (not even Capita) can say exactly where SIMS is going.

After 2 days of messing about I finally got MRBS working on Windows 2k3.

 

My question is this, it ias great that you can setup periods but can MRBS handle a 2 week timetable?

 

If anyone has got it setup for this could you please let me know hoe it is done.

I Have but only found references to a module being created for it but no real how to do it...

I ahve ended up putting both entries in with a number in brackets for now. There arent that many differences between the two weeks here though as far as the IT suites are concerned.

I managed to do it, after some digging. and this is how:

 

There is a file called lang.en within this file there are a number of variables set, what you are looking for is:

 

$vocab["rep_type_6"]         = "n-Weekly";

 

Change this to:

 

$vocab["rep_type_6"]         = "Bi-Weekly";

 

Now when adding a booking that will take place on week 1 and 3 you will need to ensure that the Bi-Weekly option is selected and on that the field "Number of weeks (for n-weekly)" has the number 2 in it.

 

When added you will see that the booking has been made for that week skipped the next one and added on the one after.

 

I agree that the field names are not the best but I am looking into changing those so they are more meaningful but that just a matter of choice really.

I use PHP Calendar, with source mods to allow for the 4 suites to work properly. The staff can see the rooms from our intranet, and can call us to book for them. No probs so far.

 

Not hard to set up either. I've just installed it with Abyss Web Server, PHP and SQL on our XP CCTV/ghostcast Server.

"Overworked"-can I suggest you look at Abyss web server, from http://www.aprelium.com?

 

It's a tiny little Win32 web server, rather like apache. It's free, and we use ours with PHP, SHTML, ASP, and SQL, on an XP Pro box. I can't think why it wouldn't work on other NT/2003 based systems.

 

Just a thought-it's what I intend to use to play with MRBS from my USB drive tonight-I have the entire school intranet/extranet on there, with web server..

We use Bookit from Flo Computer services, http://www.flocs.com/. It's £160.00 for a site licence with lifetime support. It works and thats all we ask.

I don't see why changing it from n-weekly to bi-weekly makes any difference to you picking n-weekly and putting 2 in the n box or is it just to save some typing?

 

The big problem I have is that when we have a odd week holiday such as feb half term I have to add all the bookings back in as I've only filled them in for the half term previous as we don't count the holidays as weeks. So we finish on say week 1 and come back on week 2 but it we counted the weeks holiday we would come back on week 1.

 

Don't know if anything could be done about this really.

All I do is print off a simple table once a month which shows the free lessons in the computer rooms, which I then pin outside our workshop. Staff then fill this in on a first come first served basis.

We use MRBS on an XP box...should work fine on 2003. I'm not using apache though.

 

Abyss Web Server for Win32..500k, freeware, all self contained and can run off a USB stick, with no registry changes. (http://www.aprelium.com)

 

PHP4.3 (Use 5 if you dare -it broke mambo for me),

 

MySQL 4.1.18 (again, tried 5..and it was a pain so I changed back.)

 

Been running this setup for 18 months..no problems at all.
