I dunno, i enjoy a bit of banter squeezed in between the serious stuff, makes me smile. But as said above as long as people dont start to take the and we end up with what we did the other day! lol

I can't say as it hurts to have a bit more of a social interaction between the members. As you say as long as it doesn't spiral out of control.

I dont think it is - i presume i might have something to do with this, but im not technically minded - an am eager to learn from technical people such as yourselves on here.

yea because I don't know what a geek is. I dont look at people differently or treat them differently because they categorise themselves into something that within itself makes you seem unapproachable.

I like learning and as technologu moves so quickly I like ot keep up to date but put some fun into it.

I'm not hear to obtain new business people - I am a supplier but I cant advertise because I'm not sponsor.

I really hope it doesn't become more social. I'm fine with using it to increase professional contacts but I certainly don't see it becoming a "professional" site (whatever that entails) with the current direction.

 

Sometimes it's positively cringe-worthy and I just can't be bothered to sift through the crap to get to real IT issues.

facebook = social networking

edugeek = forums (technical forums at that)... have you noticed that these posts everyone is referring to have all happened in "General Chat"? Cant really get any more general than what's been going on.

 

Sure the posts in general chat are getting alot of attention... but so are the x number of technical threads too.

It would be a shame to see members like DMcCoy put off the site as people like him make valuable contribution to the technical knowledge of the site. His posts have helped me on numerous occasions.

Shame is too soft a word actually, it would be a real blow to the site.

 

For my tastes, the site has become too socially slanted recently. It is frustrating to post a question about a technical issue you are having to see it quickly slide off the front page due to the "Have you seen this amusing website" and "Lets have a chinwag about some trivial issue" threads and thus not have a great chance of being answered. I am not saying that those threads don't have their place but shouldn't overwhelm the genunine technical questions that people need help with.
