Sims systems manager and Windows 7

I've finally got Sims to install on windows 7 and its working great but having a problem with system manager. I guess its because its a 16bit app or something. Looks like it was built in the 90s anyway :)

 

Any ideas how to get it working?

A number of customers have asked for clarification regarding our Support for SIMS and FMS on Microsoft’s two new Operating Systems. We have carried out a considerable amount of developer investigation and testing with the Autumn Main release and whilst we are happy that the overwhelming majority of the SIMS software suite will work fine on Windows 7, we have not yet completed all of the testing that we would need to confirm 100% compliance with Windows 7 and to obtain the Windows7 Kitemark from Microsoft.

As such, Windows 7 is not currently supported but will be fully tested and supported as a client Operating System alongside the SIMS 2010 Spring Main Release.

Windows Server 2008 R2 is not supported. We are currently investigating this Operating System and will announce our intended date for supporting it in due course

Are they serious?

 

Windows 7 has been in beta for over a year now, what have they been doing?? :rolleyes: The very least they could do is fix the non working apps then go for a certified release in spring.

 

Is there no hack to get systems manager running?

Not that I've tried - but System Manager 7 (cant remember the date!) built in .NET is on it's way - they're testing now. So I have been told ...

Capita dont test on beta software, at least thats what i've heard before! If your running win7 I use virtual PC with XP mode to run sims, its almost seamless.

Well at least thats some good news, I reckon if they gave me the source I could write that in a couple of days :)

 

I'm sure someone posted a hack here a while back about getting this running but I can't find it.

Same. it wont work untill the january release. " says capita"

I'm running W7 64-bit and it works fine for me :)

 

even the system manager bit? as the net framework has been moved around that stops it working or have you done a patch?

Just works, think it was fixed with the 7.124 release of SIMS

 

how have you got that version?? we have support direct from capita hand have only got the 7.122

thanks for that our sims manager had not informed me there was an update. Is going on tonight.

I read on another post about files that are missing in Windows 7.

 

Copy them files over and it will all work.

 

Instructions below. For 32-bit.

 

1. Find an XP machine that Sims is installed and working on.

 

2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 folder

 

3. Copy

 

netapi32.dll

netui0.dll

netui1.dll

netui2.dll

netrap.dll

 

4. Download SLAX from the internet and put onto a CD or USB

 

5. Copy the DLL files to the memory stick (Easier and doesnt waste a CD)

 

6. Boot into SLAX

 

7. Copy the DLL files over to the System32 folder on the main HDD

 

8. Restart the Computer and run Sims. System Manager should now work.

 

 

I'm not taking credit for this. But I can't find the original document to thank the User. :D
