SIMS FMS Error

Hi,

 

We are running SIMS FMS version 6.91 here and for some reason we have recently encountered an error with our SIMS. When we are processing our purchase orders and press the print option the machine crashes out and we get the following error message:

 

"General SQL error.

[Microsoft]

[sql Server]Error converting data type varchar to int."
 

Has anyone any idea of what could be causing this problem?  It sounds like it is some sort of problem with a field that is trying to convert from one type to another but the SIMS FMS works fine if we remote desktop to the server?

i guess the SQL native client was installed when you did the FMS setup? tried reinstalling FMS?

 

Might be to do with Crystal reports .... you a member of supportnet?

It prints the Purchase Orders out fine but then i get the error message. Here is a screen print of the exact message. So printing is fine whichever printer I use and printing is fine, its just after printing happens and it tries to save the file this is when the error message pops up.

Were trying to setup another PC so we can test it out but when we install this from scratch it still says the error. Very strange... I know it could be something very easy to fix so thanks for the pointers so far.

FMS 6.91, surely thats pretty old??

 

Is the SQL Native Client package installed on the PC concerned, might be worth a shot - Search google for sqlncli.msi and download the appropriate version from MS

Oh yes - sorry, missed that.

 

Another one would be to try as administrator, FMS printing can be a bit funny with peoples profiles (usually around cheque printing though).

Try upgrading to the latest version.

I did get a work around. I copied the sims FMS folder from the server onto the effected machine and the problem has gone away for now anyway

This error message tends to suggest that there is a data type conversion of varchar to int that is starting with data that is not in an integer format, eg. 2.5 cannot be converted to an integer. Either the original input data is invalid or the SIMS programming, I can't tell which.

Thats what i thought. Its strange because everything was fine until some MS updates kicked in on the machine and messed with something. I copied the latest FMS files from the server and the error went away. We will test a bit more before finally closing the door on this one.

Yes i think so. I'm glad we found a quick work around though or all payment runs would stop

Just a quick question. What is the difference of running the finance.exe or the FMSLoad.exe?

FMS load checks the current installed version of FMS against the installation files on the server. If they are different, the it updates the workstation.

 

The .exe is the actual application file.

 

This is much the same with SIMS
