Hi, I have been asked to add a note pad on to the desktop of students with some information about the progress, we run a profile desktop per year group so I will have to embed a box and link it to there login account and then to a database with the relevant information, any ideas that can save me time. Thanks

Hi, You need to make sure that you have installed the Sims database by running sinsinst.exe (Note: if you have moved it look at the property tab and unlock), once run you will install and can attach the database.

[sims] [SOLUS3] - Unable to install S3 Agent on one device
theaman replied to Rawns's topic in MIS Systems
Sound like some sort of domain sid problem, try re-adding the PC to the domain and that would over right the domain credentials if they have become corrupt -
You need to make a local user account on a PC and then do the changes you want on it, Proxy, redirects and any other bits, then upload it from the PC to location on the server making sure you give the everyone rights when uploading (this is not copy and past) and then rename the Ntuser.dat to Ntuser.man and there you have it, you can then refine it by going into the regedit and changing bits in there i did do a post on the XP one it not that different Or You could use roaming and restrict in AD the size of the profile

Hi, It can be a bit of a pain.......but Log in as a user make the profile how you want it set macros and all other settings Log out login as administrator go to my computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> User Profiles -> pick the user that you have just made -> then click copy To put server location and add the everyone group in copy to the location change the Ntuser.DAT to NTuser.MAN then copy to your PC so you can load the file in regedit. Loading ntuser.man file The file ntuser.man located within the main profile folder contains all of the windows settings for a user. It can be edited using regedit. Click > Start > Run and type “regedit” Select HKEY_Local_Machine Click > File > Load hive , and select the location of ntuser.man. Name the key “ntuser” and click ok. The hive is now loaded into regedit. Within the ntuser file there will be entries that relate to a specific user, the majority of these are located in: Ntuser > software > Microsoft > windows > currentversion > explorer > shellfolders The string for “AppData” is an example of this. The path: “C:\Documents and settings\john doe\Application Data” will only work for the user john doe. In order to change this to work for all users the user name needs to be replaced with %USERNAME%. Make this change for all instances of the username, you can search for them and replace. Hope that make senes i'm in a bit of a rush.

Maybe if you are using the same tape.. Format the tape tonight and run the backup, you may not have it set on over write. -

Hi, I was having profile problems so i adderssed it at the reg end and it worked you will need to: Loading ntuser.man file The file ntuser.man located within the main profile folder contains all of the windows settings for a user. One thing that i am going to try is creating a user called %USERNAME% so the setting are in there already, so no need to change any thing just create the profile and push it out to all uaers (not tried it yet). Hope that make senes i'm in a bit of a rush. -
Thanks all that's done the trick:)

Windows 2003 and veritas backup exec 11D
theaman replied to Garyd53's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
It will backup the file even if it is open, as it opens a tem copy of the file when you amend a file. Are the tapes on over write old media? Take off job maximum runtime and when you get in see what the backup is asking of you it may say backing up, insert new media, bad media ...but you will know or take off verify as that can get stuck -
I will give it a go thanks

Hi, Have you update backup Exec (should be on SP2)? Is it running out of space on the tape? Is it doing a full backup? Do you have verification running? Are you backing up open files (Exchange) and is it haning? Can you just leave it over the weekend to run with out having the job maximum runtime setup and see what are the event logs saying. -
I am the network manager in a school. 2003 and xp domain. I can prevent exe files from running Ok. But when a student double clicks on an exe file from within a ZIP it runs ok. I have tried to prevent running ZIP files but could not stop them. by Using security settings in a GPO. Using Software Restriction Policies to Protect Against Unauthorized Software Any thoughts on preventing these exe from running. Thanks
