I've just had a call from a teacher who needs to be able to put some kind of countdown timer in a PPT file, so she can show it on her whiteboard allowing the kids to see how long they have left to do a certain task.

Anybody seen something like this?

Do you use Smartboards? There is one in their Gallery pack which is pretty awesome. Doesn't export into .ppt but it does sit in their notebook software.

You could always use a video clip from Countdown off YouTube, or even film your own version.

Must have been misunderstood. I didn't want a 'Countdown' clip, but rather a countdown clock that can be changed to however many minutes the teacher wants to set.

@Hightower:

Promethean activstudio has this functionality already built into it, dead easy for the teacher to use.

:) :) :)

Yeah, we use Promethean boards in MFL purely for the ActivStudio software, but these are the only Promethean boards we use (which on a different note I am glad of!). The SmartBoard software has this functionality built in too, but the teacher specifically needs it to work in a PowerPoint.

I think the plan is, she wants to set each slide with a time limit, so when she clicks start on that slide it counts down say 5 minutes. It does something fancy when time is up, and she can manually move on to the next slide and set another timer away, possibly setup with a different time.

Can she not set the time on the powerpoint through actions or is she completely numb from the neck up ;) :)

Do you have problems with your promethean IWBs?

We don't like the Smartboards cos our kids would destroy them in a crack. :( :)

Hate Promethean gear - had nothing but trouble at my last school. Never have a problem with SmartBoards, but we got good kids ;)
