Cheapest place for cans of air

Need to get some cans of air to clean out a couple of projectors, where is the cheapest place? Maplin ar about £11 for a 400ml can, must be able to get it cheaper?

We use hills too. It always runs out so fast. Cheeky dep head suggested we get up on ladders with a mini hoover to do the ceiling mounted projectors. Like hell. Maybe i should clean the bogs too.

As a side note make sure they are off first. The guy i work with sprayed some in a projector that was running. It turned it into a flame thrower!

I've gone with Hills before when buying in bulk. It's worth having a chat to them rather than just doing it online too - often savings to be had by working that way.

 

Recently I've found our local PC World Business quite good on bulk items like this. We have an account set up with Catalyst (old GCat) pricing which seems to give them a bit more flexibility with price if you push them.

When I was looking for some I got a good deal on eBay, I guess you may not be able to use them but it might be worth checking some out as there are a few businesses on there that may be able to sort you something out off eBay. Failing that it might be worth getting a mini compressor, we looked at it then things happened and we never got it!

Somewhere in the past ive seen a rechargeable spray air can - you can charge it from a bike pump, car compressor etc but i cant find them now - any help would be appreciated.

I have often wondered at the economics of buying a small compressor, something like a car tyre inflator & rigging up 12v mains adapter to run it. I am sure it would work out cheaper in the long run?

We've been looking at various different ones, is this one portable enough to move from class to class, and blast the projectors whilst still mounted?

I think it is portable enough but it does weigh 16kg, It does depend on the size of your site, You can plug it in and 'charge' the cylinder with air then move to a location and clean it, and yes the pipe on the spray attachment is long enough to put the compressor on table/floor and clean the projector whilst still attached to the ceiling.

When i used to work at pc world we had a compressor from Halfords i think was really good, no problems with it, although the ones with tanks are better, due to the fact they are not always really loud, they are slightly more expensive. Plus with a compressor you dont get the freezing cold air coming out if you try to get dust out of a hard to reach corner!

You've got to love DLP projectors for not needing as much cleaning

 

The last lot of tins I got were 5 Star ones at £5 a tin (large tins) with free delivery from Document Express (Jenny on 01616225047).

 

@FN-GM: There's different types of spray... you need to make sure that you get the non-flammable stuff - there's several different types!

We purchased an air compressor from screwfix with a 10 metre hose. Cost us £100. Don't have to worry about the flame thrower effect and its more powerful than a can of air (Plus environmentally friendly too!)

if you use a compressor you may want a water trap on there aswell so theres no spitting water

I just googled rechargeable compressor... there appear to be cordless products out there. I don't know how long they would last per charge, but at least you would not trip over the cable
