MyMaths.co.uk not displaying properly for students

This is a bit of a weird one but one that has me stumped. Maths use a site, mymaths.co.uk. Everything looks fine until students login. When they log in the buttons at the top of the webpage do not display properly, you can drag your mouse over where they should be and know they are there but you cant actually see them. This is in contrast to a teacher login where the page displays properly with no problem.

Both use the same site login and Ive tried this on the same machine so its definitely not a java or machine software issue as it will as it will work fine when i log on as a teacher but not as a student logon.

Can anyone suggest anything i should be trying in order to get to the bottom of this as its driving me crazy and the maths teacher is demanding it works for the start of term on thursday and i dont really want to have to mess about making a MyMaths windows logon which is basically just a cut down teacher logon just so students can use this website.

I've seen this occur when one of our local filtering reg ex's (for completely another website/purpose) has gone and interfered with mymaths. I'd be inclined to think filtering...

Even an explicit 'whitelist' didn't work, but explicit whitelisting should be your first step. Then try disabling lists one by one to see whether it identities any issues with an entry on a certain list.

Not sure if this helps but I've been investigating why the my maths web site does not load properly and after much head scratching and investigation I found that embedded in the flash stream were very naughty words which of course was being filtered [ correctly ] by our proxy server.

I have sent the logs over to the people at my maths with my findings but have not had a responce. If I do, I'll let you know - of course your problem may be sorted now - mine is now I have found out why.....

Back in the days when I was a visual basic programmer I used to copy whole reams of stuff into the code out of boredom - never anything naughty - usually either song lyrics or once, the complete works of Shakespeare ;)

Done that myself - normally jokes inside scripts, or if they clicked in a certain place the CD drive would pop open....

Many years ago I used to find it amusing at finding messages in boot sector viruses when clearing them down in a hex editor.....The writers used to basically send messages to each other but most of the time it was a case of swearing insults.....

That's when it was clever to knock up a virus - now anyone can do it.

@daveboy

Funny you should say that I had to go round all our mymaths PCs and upgrade the flash to the latest version to get it to work. We were on flash9

Still no reply from MyMaths regarding my E-mail asking them why rude words were embedded within the flash content - is it worth chasing up ?

i had this problem and it was due to the file screens on the server not letting the computer save/run some temporary flash extension into the profile/home area. I had in the end went through and enabled one category at a time then narrowed it down from there.

This is on the Server Resource Manager in 2003 R2.
