Theblacksheep Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 In contrast to my previous statement this was on 2008R2. Just tried it on a 32bit2008. Same error. Installed .net WCF and it worked. Made sure 2008r2 had the same features, still error as posted above. Maybe 64bit related? Anyway I can crack on now!
sparkeh Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 In the meantime, see if installing this helps: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=130F7986-BF49-4FE5-9CA8-910AE6EA442C&displaylang=en Thanks for thinking about this, just to let you know that unfortunately this didn't solve the problem.
bizzel Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Hmm, it was worth a try. AUP Informant needs some TLC from me this holiday so I'll be taking a look at this soon. 1
sparkeh Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Hmm, it was worth a try. AUP Informant needs some TLC from me this holiday so I'll be taking a look at this soon. Thanks, that would be great, been testing it on my laptop and it looks brilliant and would be great to get it running on the server.
Ben_Stanton Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Hi guys, I can't get AUP Informant to work on my test server. It installs fine, but I cannot load it up. Simply offers an ambiguous and non-descript error message; "AUP Informant Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." There is no error report with it and nothing listed in the logs either. Very odd. Windows 2003 - fully updated and patched. SQL and .net framework installed and up-to-date as required. Any advice?
tmcd35 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I think I have the cause of this narrowed down. Once the latest EduSweep build is released next Monday then I'll turn my full attention to this issue. Hey Bizzel, I just installed some 64bit Windows Multipoint Server clients (Windows 7 on steroids) and they error instead of loading the AUP. Do you support 64bit and/or Win7 yet or is the problem more likely to be the Multipoint Server software? Any updates due?
drewp Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Hi, AUP Informant seems to keep crashing on our server with the following event information. EventType clr20r3, P1 aup informant server.exe, P2 2.0.2.138, P3 4aa1162b, P4 system.data.sqlserverce, P5 3.5.1.0, P6 486140a5, P7 dc, P8 175, P9 system.data.sqlserverce.sqlce, P10 NIL. Any ideas as to why its crashing and if it can be fixed?
drewp Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Me again, had another crash at 12:00 that I did not notice untill now - same error code as before! Wondering if my server needs a reboot, or if I should uninstall and reinstall on a different server
fiza Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Paul - Did you get any time to look at AUP Informant? Also with the new Academic year approaching I want to empty my database and get everyone to agree to the AUP again in Sept. What is the easiest way to do this?
drewp Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Hi, still suffering with AUP Informant crashing on our server, I have installed it on a different server to see if it could keep running for longer. It also crashes on the different server sometimes after 30 minutes or even after 2 minutes. The event log records the below which is a different error than before... EventType clr20r3, P1 aup informant server.exe, P2 2.0.2.138, P3 4aa1162b, P4 system, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4889de7a, P7 2d61, P8 2f, P9 system.invalidoperationexception, P10 NIL. Any anyone give me some help to stop it from crashing?
fiza Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 The only time it crashed on me was when I had users with apostrophes in thier names logging on. I changed the username to exclude the apostrophe and AUP has been running now for nearly 7 months no problems. 1
drewp Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I think we have a single user that has an apostrophe in their user name! might explain why it was running over the Half Term with no problems! Just changed the users logon name and hopefully that will solve the problem!
bart21 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 aup wont open for me i get this in the event log EventType clr20r3, P1 aup informant server.exe, P2 2.0.2.138, P3 4aa1162b, P4 aup informant server, P5 2.0.2.138, P6 4aa1162b, P7 21, P8 5, P9 system.io.filenotfoundexception, P10 NIL. anyone any ideas?# thanks
sparkeh Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 @bart21: take a look back at the thread, there are a few of us with this issue and it doesn't appear to have been addressed.
2097 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 for the people getting this EventType clr20r3, P1 aup informant server.exe, P2 2.0.2.138, P3 4aa1162b, P4 aup informant server, P5 2.0.2.138, P6 4aa1162b, P7 21, P8 5, P9 system.io.filenotfoundexception, P10 NIL. the reason this is because you have the wrong sqlserver installed. SSCERuntime-ENU-x86.msi Download details: SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1 and Synchronization Services for ADO.NET v1.0 SP1 for Windows Desktop ^ right at the bottom of the page . If that does not work PM me and ill forward you mine 1
fiza Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Looks like its the end of the line for AUP Informant unless someone else picks it up as Paul Beesley has unfortunately stopped support and will not be developing any new versions. AUP Informant « Paul Beesley Such as shame as it was a lovely piece of software. We will continue to use it in its current version.
jonny_2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 has anyone got aup informant working successfuly with terminal services?
6Foot2 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Hi. I have AUP informant running at the server and I have deployed it to my test station. I have configured AUP informant and logged on as a user. However the AUP does not show on the client and AUP Informant Status shows no activity. Can anyone help? Thanks.
fiza Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 Make sure it is not blocked by your firewall or av program. 1
6Foot2 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Make sure it is not blocked by your firewall or av program. Not the firewall. I have added the exceptions as described in the setup PDF. I doubt it is my anti-virus as Sophos is not reporting any problems with the program but it is worth checking. Thanks.
6Foot2 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Since my last post here I have found one laptop on our network where AUP Informant 2 behaves as expected. This laptop is in the same OU as other Staff laptops and has received the same software via Active Directory/Group Policy. It does not have any of the software installed from PC [curriculum software: 2D Design, Pro Desktop, Pro Engineer, BlueJ, MacroMedia MX,...] The other difference between this and other laptops on the network: This laptop is HP and most of the other laptops [for the most part] are Dell. However I do not feel that this is relevant [included here for completeness] Because AUP Informant works on this HP works I am confident that the other laptops can be made to work also. What I would like to ask is: Does anyone know if there is any software known to conflict with AUP? If there are packages that DO conflict with AUP Informant are there any workarounds? Many thanks.
dnlees Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I was having the same problem, and followed 2097's suggestion - SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1 and Synchronization Services for ADO.NET v1.0 SP1 for Windows Desktop - everything fine now. ps: if you are running a 64bit server, you do need to install the x86 version first, then the 64bit version - so download both....
Sean Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Hi We were previously using the old V1.6 of AUP informant and that was OK but we wanted to take advantage of the updated features this year So I tested 2.0.2 and rolled it out but now it seem to transpire that, while it's working fine on computers on the same network segment as the server, machines that are off on seperate VLANS (10.10... range rather than 172.16...) don't display the AUP at all - I know that Paul isn't supporting AUP Informant any more but I wanted to know whether this is just a limitation of the software if if we're doing something wrong somewhere - has anyone got it working properly over VLANs? It seems like I should up the TTL at either the client or server but can't find any option to do this, there's a config file on the clients that seems to be empty except for opening and closing tags - is there something we're ment to put in there? Thanks in advance guys
Iamthelaw Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Hi, like Fiza we are running AUP informant 2.1 and have pushed it out to clients, I need to reset the database though ready for monday so that when people log in they all see and have to accept the policy, a few of them have been done already as part of a test so currently won't see it again due to the settings. Is there anyway to totally reset the acceptance information and start again without deleting the database? If the database is deleted will it miss up the sql instance?
fiza Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 If you want to reset the DB just go into (if you installed using defaults) C:\Program Files\Paul Beesley\AUP Informant Server and find the file called AUPInformant.sdf and rename it AUPInformant.sdfold or something. when AUP Informant is run again it will generate a new sdf file and all users will get the AUP on screen. We do this every Sept. Hope that helps 1
