I have sent you both PMs with a link to a testing build that does not attempt to use the event log in any way. Please check it out when you have a free moment and let me know if it resolves the issue.

And 2.0.2 is now available for general consumption. It's a very minor change to 2.0.1, just addressing the issue that wasn't properly fixed. Please update to 2.0.2 if you are on 2.0.1. Edited by bizzel

So far, I've had 28 emails (all different users) with regards to users declining the AUP but when I check the Current Policy Acceptance report it is showing only 6 users that have declined.

Not a biggie but thought I'd let you aware incase it's a simple one.

I'm getting a lot of server crashes since usage has intensfied (lots of users logging in and policy set to always show). Event log on Server says:

Could you mail me your application event log please? Feel free to filter it so that only events from AUP Informant Server are shown.

Those users might have declined your policy and then, at the next logon, accepted it. That way they would no longer show as 'declined users' but the emails would still have been sent out as soon as they declined it.

This is more likely if you have the decline actions set to restart or log the user off since they will then probably accept at the next opportunity.

Let me know if that does or doesn't correlate with what you're seeing.

I'm thinking about changing the email notifications option so that it sends weekly summaries instead of instant notifications. What do you all reckon?

Yeah looking again at the stats that would make sense actually.

Cheers.

Yes that would be a lot better.

I was getting bombarded by email notifications at first so created a rule to send them direct to another folder.

An email once a week would help with stats and the annual email housekeeping ;-)

Just to let everyone know that I'm moving house at the end of this week so I'll be posting less frequently for a while (at least until I get an internet connection!). If you've reported an issue then I'll still be working on it.

If you need to get in touch (and please still do so) then use the contact form on my website. I'll pick up the email on my phone rather than having to run to the library and check EduGeek. :p

Paul - AUP has suddenly today stopped working after working great for months. I restarted the service and this caused the policy to reappear on peoples machines who had already accepted it (when they accept it, it bombs out). After a few minutes the AUP Server bombs out. I am getting Application Event Error messages on the server as follows ;

The first (event ID 0 Source AUP Informant Server)

Unable to perform a query on a user

Additional details:

Username : JBloggs

SQL Query SELECT COUNT (Response) AS Result FROM Users WHERE Response = 1 AND Userna,e - JBloggs

There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1, Token line offset = 83, Token in error = jbloggs ]

The second (Event ID 5000 Source .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting)

EventType clr20r3, P1 aup informant server.exe, P2.2.0.2.138,P3

4aa1162b, P4 system.data.sqlservice, P5 3.5.1.0, P6 486140a5,

P7 dc, P8 175, P9 system.data.sqlserverce.sqlce, P10 NIL.

Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting - I thought I had that fixed. The database query should ignore any special characters like that but it obviously doesn't. I have a small point release (2.0.3) coming shortly so I'll investigate and roll a fix into that.

Hi bizzel,

Any news on the 2.0.3 release? The only thing stopping AUP Informant working perfectly for us, is the bug with non-alphanumeric characters in the username causing a crash.

Thanks

This is the reply I got from Paul (Bizzel) last month.

I apologise for the delay; I'm finding it difficult to work on any of my EduGeek projects at the moment due to workload. The best option I can see right now is for me to fully open-source the AUP Informant code and release it to the community. That way the project can at least be maintained for the foreseeable future. I plan to do this within the next week, assuming I do go ahead with it.

I'll keep you informed and I'll also post on the blog and on EduGeek when I make the change.

I hope he has changed his mind and keeps on working on it as its a wonderful piece of software.

We get the same error as above - it seems to be a well reported problem via google and not just for AUP informant.
