Projector Remote Replacement

Can anyone suggest any companies who might be able to help me in replacing the 4 Sanyo Pro-X remotes our teachers have "never had" (for that, read "lost")?

 

I've emailed a few for quotes but had no replies, time to start hassling by phone now

We've had them from Promethean before (they supplied us with the projectors in the first place). They were about £75 each though!!!

 

IDNS may be able to help, we've had spare pens off them.

I had to buy some for Samsungs - and they were about £70 each - must admit never thought of using cheap TV all in ones - do they work OK?

As long as they have a Learn function, I wouldn't see why not. However that does assume that you have at least one of the originals available to program the new one with.

I did email Roche AV on the fly the other day for a quote, they never came back to me... I'll try IDNS but fear the constant contact that follows any enquiry or order (almost as bad as Halcyon!)...

I guess it doesn't help at the moment but if you bought a nice Phillips Pronto remote and stored all the different projector remotes in that you would have a back up in case you lost them and a useful service aid.

 

I'm NOT suggesting giving Pronto remotes to the teaching staff... if they lose their remote you can buy a relatively cheap 'learning' remote and program it using the Pronto.

 

BTW - Pronto remotes aint cheap but at £70 a throw, they are only the same price as 3 or 4 projector remotes!

You could get all the other AV stuff to go with it - DVD player, 7.1 channel home thaetre, etc. - and it would help while away those lazy Friday afternoons

If you have a PDA running a flavour of Windows Mobile, you could get this

The real pain in trying to use a one-for-all is that whilst you will have a a button for "ON" and "VOLUME" you may not have a "MENU" and you definitely won't have a "KEYSTONE". You may be able to teach the remote the correct code, but what about teaching the operator that button "1" is now "PC"?

 

OK, you might get away with it if the only ever turn on/off and change the input...

 

I have successfully used a Palm with “Omni Remote” from PacficNeoTech for setting Pioneer DVDs to MultiRegion; but do you want to issue Palms to staff who loose remotes?

@Andrew_C: hence my suggestion for the Pronto... you can design the remote layout so that it looks the same if you so wish.

 

If the users of the projector don't want ot have to put up with an el cheapo remote then they shouldn't lose them! Alternatively, charge the department £70 and see them complain about using a cheap remote!

I'd charge the department anyway. Unless it's a cross-curricular room in which case it would come from the ICT Maintenance budget.

No-one came back to me but eventually I found that Tracline (http://www.tracline.co.uk) could supply the originals at £40 a pop (ouch)... so 5 have been ordered, and I think we're gonna chain them to the desks of the classrooms... they won't go missing this time...

How about one of these?

 

It is a lockable steel box which you mount to the wall and place the remote control in. It has a mirror on top to deflect the signal and the front has holes in so you can press the buttons on the remote.

I have to do that with office equiptment, you would be surprised, I have not lost a hole punch all year that way.

what you could get is a pixie controller. it would need to be fitted in by an AV installer and you will need one of the sanyo pro x projector remotes but they fix on the wall so they dont go walkies. very robust but cost £130. can be reprogrammed at a later date if you change projector as well. so not a complete waste of money. you will need a pro x remote though because you need one to programe the pixie unit.

We bought a huge programmable one off eBay. It's the size of a brick It also has LCD screen and stylus.

 

I trained it with the single remaining remote, and it works like a dream, has all the functions of the original.
