Posting this under the 'Interweb' heading.

 

While trying not to belittle the opinions of others I saw this today and was amazed:

I looked for the original post on the Flat Earth forum website to eliminate the possibility that this had been created in an attempt to discredit the society in some way [Found the original post here: Link]

 

While I am used to the idea that there are still people around who believe that the Earth is flat [accepted] what I find difficult to accept is that someone would put forward an argument [or ask a question] to support their own views and that argument or question has fatally flawed logic behind it:

 

The Earth MUST be flat because every [two dimensional] picture I have seen to represent it is two dimensional.

 

You can't fight 'logic' like that.

I love conspiracy theories.

 

Most of them of course are just ridiculous, but every now and then you have a gem pop up.

 

If you want a particularly good one look into David Icke's work. (Incidentally the Bilderberg Group he mentions do exist, but they're not really alien lizards (as far as I know)).

I hate the way stupid things like this get chucked intot the 'conspiracy theory' pot.

 

Icke is a perfect example, take legitimate facts and **** on them from a great height.

I know that's not very PC, and likely to upset some people (religious people, for example) but that's just how I see it.

 

The problems are when these people start trying to govern the rest of us...

Agreed; belief systems are fine but I'd rather not have it forced on people as fact (eg creationism)

You seem to be ridiculing the flat-earth theory without at least having the common

curtsey or suggesting a viable alternative. The "globe earth" theory is interesting but does ignore the basic facts..

The only reason it can stay on the back of four elephants is because "Great A'Tuin" helps them balance it.

Yeah, I wondered that as well. And has he never been in a plane or high enough to see the curvature of the earth? Mind you, it could be a curved plane rather than an actual sphere - so should it be the 'Curved Earth Society'?

The damage to Hiroshima is not proof of nuclear bombs.

 

140,000 dead of radiation burns but no proof that a nuclear bomb landed anywhere near the city? Japan didn't start building nuclear power plants until 195 and, according to the meka of all (mis-)information - wikipedia, none have been built in Hiroshima.

 

Obviously the Japanese government are trying to cover up the effects of a freak solar flare!
