Hi everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying our much needed rain and thunder on this lovely weekend and that the hangovers don't last too long.

Anyway, I have quickly been getting the need for a static IP address with my home internet connection. Blueyonder (my current ISP) I presume do not provide this from what I have read on the net. Does anyone know of a UK provider that does offer this service that they can recommend or anyone got any advice on how to 'encourage' blueyonder to give me one (they are very capable of doing so, it just costs them a little bit more - i'd be willing to pay a max of £5 a month extra).

Cheers

Take this with a pinch of salt but I was a blueyonder user and very happy with the service I was getting but forced to move to ADSL when we moved out of cable areas..

I spent a fair whack of time looking around and eventually fell back on Nildram who had come out pretty well when the school was looking to pressure their ISP and asked me to research alternatives.

There are downsides in that you pay for installation, get no free modem but speaking frankly a decent modem is something you need to buy anyway for ADSL so no loss and the reliability of the service is pretty outstanding...

A static IP is extra but only a few quid and you can get the max of 8mb/s data speed but of course that's dependent on your distance from the exchange. They also have packages to suit different needs and realistic limits.

I'd still check out the adslguide site though and trawl around but word of advice is to avoid the flavour of the month as it seems they get flooded with new users, fall over when they can't meet demand and suffer outages..

Just my 10 penneth worth.

I use Eclipse and have a static IP at no cost... service is fine although I live too far from the exchange to get a decent speed :(
